The Google seems to think there’s a continuous path from Arl Hall Park thru or at least into the training center campus. Fencing for the campus is not depicted, nor are trolls or other nasties, but who knows. As the pic shows, the “path” is hardly inviting looking, but if the path under GMD is legit *and* you can access stuff east of the campus via this path, it would be helpful. And yes, I’d rather not get shot just for trying.

Well, it is *open enough* that you can test it out…… :) The new trail is extra wide, super smooth and really nice. It’ll be better when fences are down and dirt is replaced by grass, etc, but right now it is a lovely experience.

While I’m sad that the thrill factor takes a hit with the development of the rest of this trail, it is better to see this and acknowledge the path’s use. It sucks when “good trails go bad” by stopping inexplicably. Any presumed increase in traffic on that trail (once it opens) may upset the homeless folks that often camp near the trail currently.

After last night’s festive storms, a tree is down & blocking the leg of the Holmes Run Trail that feeds into Sanger Ave. in Alexandria.. Reported, for now you can go around thru the underbrush on the uphill side.

Nitpick – shouldn’t sharrows be in the center of the travel lane?

Recent repainting on Dinwiddie has placed many sharrows adjacent to the “parking lane” and not centered in the path of travel. Not that sharrows are the perfect solution anyway, but is this something worth re-doing? (Sorry about the pic orientation)

I bet the “issues” cited along S George Mason Drive (numerous vehicles hit) is just a sign of drivers doing bad driver things. Supposedly this stuff increases as light decreases each year. Along Walter Reed Drive, some over-achieving driver took out not one but two streetlights in one attempt. Pretty impressive given the distance between the light poles. Skills.

    And yes, be safe, bike-people.

…and more trailside art that begs an explanation, this time along the Four Mile Run Wetlands Trail opposite the water treatment plant. There are 3 of these, each containing different found objects including misc. sports equipment. Who knows the story behind these?

So what manner of artistic beasties are these? There’s a long stretch of these, maybe 50 of them, hanging from the trees above the Holmes Run Trail. They are large, close to a foot long, and they look wonderful in the sunlight!

On one hand, DC is now a biker’s relative paradise given the absence of traffic….on the other hand, it seems freaky and ominous presuming you understand the “why” of it all.

Wonderful work – thanks to all who helped!

Recently, going through that “tunnel” felt like biking down some fuzzy dragon’s gullet, what with all of the vines and such. Seeing daylight along there will be great!

A ferry ride to the Westbank offered a view of a pretty interesting front suspension set up…and more.
