Looks like one lane of motor vehicle traffic each way. Exposure to turning traffic, but limited. I can live with that to a point. Big question-when will they finish work underneath the bridge so that the trail route can reopen?
My understanding is that the trail detour will be in place until the end of the project in 3 months. With the bridge opened to vehicles, trail users have a pretty long wait to get the signal.

OK fellow lumberjacks: What do we do now?
Isn’t that the cone and barrel on the right side of the picture?

There is traffic on the West Glebe bridge. Sidewalk lanes on both the upstream and downstream sides of the bridge are still closed. Detour at the end of the bridge now has cross traffic.
Detour is going to continue to be in place for another three months.

But wouldn’t that blow his/her cover?
The International Society of Secret Lumberjack Masons have ways of identifying each other.

One wonders if the anonymous lumberjacking accelerated the opening.
Someone should buy that lumberjack a beer next week. I roll through here most days and don’t find the entrance and exit angle to be problematic on the south end. It’s a bit sharp on the north end, but there’s some constraints there with utility poles and the fenced gas pipes that would make the bridge twice as long to get around. Only sightline issue is the junction with Eads where the new fencing makes it a little bit harder to see folks similar to how the sewer plant fence creates a blind corner.
The decking appears to be a composite material. Interesting choice since this material is generally more durable and more expensive than wood and my understanding is this bridge will be torn down in ~3 years when the project is done. Info on slip resistance of wood versus composite was all over the map the last time I did research on it, with some data showing certain models of decking being as good or better than wood and some showing worse.

I recently bought a Third Eye mirror because I’m going to be going on a trip where I won’t be using my own bike (my bikes are equipped with bar-end mirrors). I’ve used it on only one ride so far. The good news is that it stays put – firmly attaches to the glasses and doesn’t bounce around or shift position. The bad news is that I can’t seem to position the darn thing to show what’s behind me. I think the problem might be something related to my cycling posture rather than a flaw in the mirror itself, but so far I’ve found it useful only for checking on the status of my left shoulder during rides.
It took me several rides with the Take A Look to get it adjusted. Good point that riding position has an impact and changing position during a ride also impacts usefulness.

ParticipantI’ve used the Take A Look mirror. https://www.rei.com/product/752285/bike-peddler-take-a-look-mirror
It can mount on a helmet visor. I found that I knocked it off the helmet too much. It was fine mounted to my glasses. Took a while to figure out adjusting it. I haven’t used it in several years but that’s mostly related to not doing a lot of vehicular cycling anymore.
TLDR: Take A Look is ok. Komorebi’s mirror is probably better.

The new 4MR boardwalk at the electric substation east of the water treatment plant was open this morning and barricades were removed from both ends of the trail.
** UPDATE **
I may have posted too soon: the detour sign at the west entrance is now back up, but the barricades still removed from both ends of the boardwalkSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It looked like someone had lumberjacked it on Friday evening based on stuff being moved but not removed.

So- is this thing still running around?
Yes. Looks like his website is dead. He last posted here in 2020. Looks like he’s hauling a trailer with additional solar panels. He’s got a youtube channel with a video from a year ago if you’ve got some internet sleuthing skills.

ParticipantHad a great time chatting with the BikeArlington folks and lots of friends this morning.
I arrived early enough to catch a photo of Henry improvising to tie down the tent from blowing away.

Thanks for the schooling! I had forgotten about the #dangerpanda rules. Went back across the Pete Beers Memorial Bridge again today … it was crowd ed … for another attempt but wound up covering part of the lens with my glove [emoji3451]and forgot to remove my shades. Guess that I need to go back yet again LOL

ParticipantI love it! Reminds me of the time LeprosyStudyGroup and I were trying to spell out something on Strava using a paddleboat in the tidal basin. But we didn’t think about the “tidal” part of tidal basin. The tide was going out and we finally figured out that we were paddling against the tide and not moving at all.

ParticipantFriends of the Mount Vernon Trail removed all the trail bumps between Jones Point and Belle Haven Park yesterday. Volunteers also edged the trail on the curve outside of Porto Veccio, uncovering ~2 feet of trail in some spots.
The amount of improvement on the trail depends on how many people show up to help. We’ll be removing bumps and rescuing some trees from invasive plants near Daingerfield Island the next two Saturdays. We’ll be at Gravelly Point removing bumps and invasive honeysuckle that’s growing into trail on the 25th. Events are posted at mountvernontrail.org/events
Trail bumps have now been removed at the ramp to TR Bridge and from the Alexandria power plant all the way to Belle View Boulevard. Bumps have been partially removed between the Daingerfield S-Curve and the power plant bridge. If you want to help us with the additional storage, fuel, transportation and insurance expenses of the bump grinding work, you can donate at paypal.me/mountvernontrail

In my attempt to capture all the red lines on Freedom Plaza, I spent a while one evening riding back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and around and up and down and more back and forth, like this:
Despite all that, the stupid Wandrer app still denied me some of the plaza
