I certainly hope I’m well enough to join you for this superb looking ride. 🙂

This happened to me last year, as I recall, I got sick right before the ride! And I’m sick again. So I hope I can make it but probably can’t do a long ride this weekend. Hope it goes well.

So I’m usually a daily rider but I got a terrible cold on Wednesday and I haven’t been able to ride since (fever, hacking cough, no meaningful sleep). Let’s keep things positive and not penalize folks who cannot ride for “legit” reasons. This is supposed to a fun and motivating competition. There are always folks who don’t quite get the point system but that’s just part of the deal.

I’m excited for this ride. Let me know if I can help at all.

Since I couldn’t make it to the happy hour last night, can folks introduce themselves? I’d like to know your names! I’m Jennifer Stoloff. I live in East Silver Spring–that’s the area just south of downtown, north of Takoma Park, and slightly east of the DC border. I am a slow-and-steady rider but I enjoy longer group rides. Look forward to a Team Fifteen meetup soon!

Hi all! I think you may need to email folks to let them know they are on this team. I had no idea until I saw the strava group invite. I will mull team names but all of the suggestions are fun.

Yes, I am waterproof, but I’m not windproof (?). My workday just ended and this isn’t great driving weather either…so, unfortunately, I’ll be missing the HH this year.

I’m finding that a good pair of ski googles make a huge difference. I’ve been out in under 30F temps and no eyes watering, face is comfy. I’ll have a cowl for the bottom of my face and a hat. I’m pretty warm otherwise so 2-3 layers is enough for the rest of my body. But my eyes were so painful that it was discouraging me from riding. My layers are a thin wool t-shirt, heavier wool quarter zip shirt, fleece jacket. The zippers help me regulate as I warm up. I wear shorts or tights under some REI loose bike pants. Socks are wool. I have some foot warmer packs because on longer rides at low temps my feet get cold. Gloves are simple knit style and that’s enough for me these days.

1st to R is a totally reasonable route, I just don’t like it. I usually do R if I’m westbound though.

Fair. The crossing at 1st and FL is hairy but I think it’s better than using Q all the way to the MBT.

FROM VA: lowest stress would be 14th St Bridge to 15th St cycletrack north. Take a right on Q. Q has two funny bits that are hard if you aren’t familiar. First is at 11th. You want to cross 11th and take the little slip lane, left on Rhode Island, then right on Q again

Then Q dead ends into Florida. I generally take the south sidewalk on Florida and cross North Cap at the light. Q continues just north of the Florida/North Cap intersection (so you need to cross Florida AND North Cap).

Continue on Q a few blocks until it dead ends. Ride up onto the little plaza and take a left on the MBT trail. Just past the RIA Metro, City State is on your left. You’ll see signs as well as the bike rack on the left side of the trail. Take the stairs up and go right.

The bike rack is likely to be full very quickly, there’s more parking upstairs. I suspect there will be a mass of bikes locked together as there’s no way the bike parking will accommodate all attendees.

One amendment to this route. Don’t go all the way to Florida on Q. When you hit 1st St NW, turn left and go one block to R. Turn right on R. It will take you directly to the MBT. No need to take sidewalks to cross Florida.

I’ll be there! And I will try and get there early (but no promises).
