thank you, #publicartfinder, for promoting me to look up this installation I’ve passed a zillion times. I never new that the lights coordinated with the ambient soundscape. I kept waiting for them to turn blue again to better match my bike… Now I know why I couldn’t figure out the order to the changing pattern of colors–they had to match the traffic sounds!

Yay for public art! Did this officially start today? Wishing I positioned my bike better in my photos…

What a coincidence! Unaware that this would be a competition, today my daughter and I ventured out on this warm day to find ice to skate on. Word on the street was that Canal Park was pretty melty, so we headed to the National Gallery of Art rink. There was a long line, so we kept biking to Georgetown’s Washington Harbour Ice Rink. Skated for an hour, grabbed some veggie tacos, checked out the Georgetown Glow art displays, and headed home via Rock Creek Park–a nice 16-mile loop around DC to cap off winter break!

Wait, does anyone ever change or add valve caps on parked bikes on the sly? I thought I had boring colored valve caps (or maybe even lost one), but then one day out of the blue I noticed I had a turquoise cap, just like my bike. But I’ve never been to a coffee club unless my bike snuck out without me…a mystery!

– chemistry: it’s a pharmacy and pharmaceuticals involve lots of chemistry
– indigo: where the streetlights blur into the sky turns indigo
– art deco architecture: this former movie theater turned CVS is a quintessential art deco style building designed by John Jacob Zink, opened in 1937
– bicycle: see the CaBi bikes to the left of the CVS entryway
– independent bakery: before the green neon lit cannabis shop to the left of CVS moved in, this was the short-lived site of an actual awesome independent bakery; however, since people stop by the cannabis shop before “getting baked,” isn’t it a “bakery” of another stripe?
