When I went to a coffee club, SteveO gave me very cool orange valve stems to match my orange bike. Seems like it wasn’t but it must have been a few years ago, there were no masks. On January 1 this year, I headed out in search of a golden nugget. It was cold and wet and I gave up on my prospecting goal but before that happened I had a puncture. Jessica Hirschorn happened by and asked if I had everything I needed to make the repair. We chatted briefly comparing notes on our foul weather riding gear. 45Nrth boots were keeping our feet dry, Pearl Izumi lobster gloves were not keeping our hands dry. I finished the repair, packed up my tools, and the damaged tube and rolled off without my valve cap! Last week on a cherry blossom ride with most of Lynn Salvo’s Pacific Coast Ride Team (SAG driver Mary and riders Lynn and Kurt), I rode by the back door of the Washington Canoe Club where I had fixed my flat and I stopped to look. There it was lodged between the weathered boards of the little entranceway! This made me happy. :) Thanks for reading!

I lost a SteveO valve cap when I got a flat about 135 miles into my GAP Trail ride in 2020. If I ever pass that way again I’ll have to be on the lookout for it!

Fixed the header. If that’s not what you wanted, lemme know and I’ll change it back.

My missing red SteveO valve cap was not at the bank in Ft Lee, NJ (nor was Richard Feder) where I stopped to change a flat on an earlier century ride this year. Maybe I’ll ask him around Easter.

I think it’s time to thank SteveO for sharing cool valve caps one more time. Thank you, SteveO! I enjoy the silver ones you shared.

SteveO was thrilled to talk about the recent postings on valve caps at coffee this morning. Two key points from this mornings conversation – SteveO has designed a new method to safely transport his stash of caps and his supplier will be delivering new caps shortly.

if you don’t have pretty valve caps (or you have misplaced them), you should come to a coffee club to get valve caps and collaborate with SteveO to pick out the right color(s) for your bike.

Our man SteveO didn’t have the exact shade of sky blue to match my Trek 412, but there are just enough hints of blue here. Merci, sir!

Wait, does anyone ever change or add valve caps on parked bikes on the sly? I thought I had boring colored valve caps (or maybe even lost one), but then one day out of the blue I noticed I had a turquoise cap, just like my bike. But I’ve never been to a coffee club unless my bike snuck out without me…a mystery!

The Valve Cap Fairy made an appearance at Henry Dunbar’s on July 4, and blessed Das Kettler with a set of red valve caps that *work perfectly* with the grocery-getter’s silver and raspberry paint. Merci, Steve O!
