Sorry, forgot to post this sooner, but there was High Life Low Life glass on the MVT bridge going over Four Mile Run on Saturday, Nov. 4, approx. 8am. Anyone else see it or glass in other locations that morning?

Heroics have their price, apparently. Bird Flipper gets fired for exercising First Amendment rights.

Should we expect the stretch of Pennsylvania Ave in front of the White House to see increasingly frequent closures to cyclists as a result?

Since it seems to be closed all the time, they can’t close it twice.

Henry – Do you know if this section of the trail is going to be closed during construction? Seems like they’ll have to at least for the concrete work.

A temporary trail will be built toward the uphill side of the intersection. It will be done in 3 phases over a couple of months and bike traffic will be allowed throughout.

Rode through yesterday headed north towards the Pike. The official detour was to cross Four Mile Run, cross George Mason and then cross Four Mile Run again. One of those detours that no one is likely to follow because who wants to wait for three changes of the crosswalk to cross one street.

If you’re driving through here in a car, expect that peds and bicyclists are going to be unpredictable.

FYI, the contractor reported to the county work is supposed to wrap at this intersection by mid-week (Oct. 25). Then work will immediately begin at the S. Oakland intersection.

Thank you. I will add this to the other comments we received separate from the survey.

Is there a hidden broom? I didn’t see one.

Rode by this AM and all appeared to be clear.

High Life Low Life is back. 10 am Sunday, Sept 17, first bridge after Gravelly Point heading south. Lots of glass. Miller High Life label w/broken glass still sticking to it right in the middle. All other bridges and underpasses were clean.

Our friend does venture further south some nights. This morning the glass is in the underpass at Airport Access Road, along with new bits of torn up paper.

Left message with Jeffrey Hitchcock (at the Tony M. number). Spoke to (a very chipper) person at the 289-2500 general number, who said the park police are in the process of setting up cameras. Spoke to park police who said “we are getting moving.”

I also noticed the paper this morning. Had the opportunity to ride MVT yesterday AM (clean) and today. Neither paper nor glass was there yesterday. This is weird.

This has also been brought to the attention of ACPD. I know MVT is not their jurisdiction, but in case things spread to Crystal City streets.

Color me confused, but all of the sudden the UI for the forums has changed on me. I’m missing my favorite expressive features such as text formatting (bold, italics, bullet points) and the emoticons (or nihongo de: “emoji.”)

I understand a backend facelift/update may be a technical necessity after so many years, but are these missing features the new norm? Something that will be added back in? Or user-side settings we need to toggle on?

Update: Ooooooor my browser decided to discover a mobile version? I clicked a link at the bottom of the page and things are back to normal. I didn;t know there was a mobile version of the forums.

Whew! I moved the BTWD topic to the bottom yesterday and was afraid I had screwed things up. But if you see something that doesn’t look right, let me know. I’ll be tinkering under the hood off and on over the next few days.

The scary thing about that is the people who made the plaque probably adjust their own brakes, too.

Please Note – Four Mile Run Trail work next week:

A contractor has been hired to mark the Four Mile Run Trail (between George Mason Drive and Shirlington Road), and the Lucky Run Trail (between Arlington Mill Drive and Rt 7).

Work is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday 5/30.
Trails will remain open, but work crews will be directly on the trail.
Paint will dry quickly, but avoid riding over fresh paint until completely dry.

Use caution around the mobile work zone.

Thank you for your understanding while this maintenance takes place to improve our trail system.

Unfortunately, at that time I have an organizing committee meeting for the Phoenix Bikes Makers Ball (April 20, 6:30pm in Crystal City) where I expect to see you all in 3 weeks. Tickets here.
