I think if perhaps hundreds suddenly showed up in the bike lane I’d be ticked, …
But wouldn’t that be preferable to hundreds of cars next to you on the street?

KeymasterAlso, thanks for all the early interest. We are very excited about this new event. Some clarification:
E-Assist: Yes, we reviewed other DRT events and saw some included e-assist categories. After much discussion we omitted this in the name of simplicity and to simulate a downed power grid. This will limit the number of categories and minimize the logistics to verifying the off-grid charging capabilities.
E-Assist bikes: Absolutely allowed, but with batteries removed. We have clarified this on the website.
As for it being a “Fitness Challenge” vibe, certainly there will be some element of that in any active lifestyle event. But we also have gone against the grain of other DRTs and removed the “race” aspect of event. While there is a 4-hour time limit, you get no bonus for additional speed under that time. So we encourage people to do what they can within that time and have fun with it.
Equity Assistance: We will be adding a discount for those who can’t afford the entry fee. Stay tuned.
We want this to be an inclusive event, but also recognize there are many variable and unknowns. So when making the necessary choices, we tend to err on side of simplicity. Given this is an inaugural event, we will evaluate once it’s over, welcome comments from the public and participants, and are open to changing things next year.

KeymasterYep, had our Top Men working on it. Had the update and reinstall a few times, I’m told. Still working on the Like/Elite button.

KeymasterAs of 8am this morning, the Four Mile Run Trail still has excessive mud and is quite slippery in two places: Under I-395 and Glebe Road. Both site reported to Arlington parks.

KeymasterThen today’s Story Corps was about this 70-yr-old mom still racing BMX.

I’ve seen some senior people riding in competitions. Just need proper/appropriate training and know your limit and enjoy your time
Which applies to anyone at any age.

KeymasterThanks. We’ll look into it.

Don’t know where your final destination is, but I’m starting from Arlington and my tentative plan is as follows (taking the opening times into account, and headed to Reston):
Arlington — Ballston (don’t know where exactly w/o Freshbikes) @ 6:30Same spot. Just now it’s Spokes, not FB.

KeymasterWell, I brought this one because it was only supposed to be a 3-hour tour.

KeymasterDammit! I’m way late too this thread having missed Dead Mens Hollow. Om my Notorious ARL tour, the official DMH stop is at 19th and Moore Street where the Continental Beer Garden is now. It’s AKA Crandel Mackey Park, named for the Commonwealth Attorney who “cleaned it up” by raiding the bars and brothels.

This parklet was also once home to the decorated storage contained that now lives in Barcroft Park and used by Phoenix Bikes.

Finally, there is also a local Blue Grass band of the same name, taken b/c several of the members lived in Arlington when they formed and thought it was cool.
So much history for just one street corner. Notorious!
