ParticipantWell, this year was certainly a bonanza for me!
A 54 cm Trek CrossRip with a set of fenders and Schwalbe Marathon Winter tires. Turtle fur neck gaiter plus Hot Chilleys Winter base layers…and gratefully, a case of toe warmers.
Merry Christmas, everyone!Fast Friendly Guy

New VO fenders and Schwalbe Marathon Winter studded tires.
Schwalbe recommends “seating” the studs by riding on dry pavement at first. I was likely the only person in the DC area riding studded tires today.
The fenders prevented me from setting the bike across the top bar of the wheel bender racks at work. Had to give up “my” space on the rack.
Did I say I hate change?
I got the same Schwalbes and new fenders. Hadn’t figured on rack problems. Maybe hanging by rear wheel would work.

No worries about late rsvps – I just need to have an expected head count by Jan 1. While rsvps in advance are very helpful and much appreciated, if someone finds out at the last minute that they can join us, please just come!
Kathy, everyone: Greetings from Richmond! I think you know I’m coming, but just in case, I’m confirming

You can start any time you want. This is apparently formally informal.
My plan was to leave 730-800 and go via Arl Loop by way of Shirlington and the airport. I decided to hold off a bit until the first predicted round of rough weather came through–nothing much materialized, so I guess I’ll just get started. After all that’s why Santa got me a rain/winter bike. I’m sticking with my route. Maybe I’ll see you if you’re going my way!? Dave

You have to be on a team and at the happy hour to receive it though!
But wait….we won’t know our teams until Jan 2!

Absent the bell and GPS, you are getting perilously close to a rule 5 violation! Just sayn’!
Thanks….No surprise! I don’t even know what Rule 5 is!

on Tuesday, I had an close encounter with a cab that was turning right on a red light at Q Street and 20th. I was in the left lane on Q Street to make a left on Connecticut. He couldn’t even stay in the right lane, despite the fact that he was continuing straight on Q Street. I had to pound on his window to get his attention.
Well, DCAKen, Pounding on drivers’s windows may avert a personal injury, even offer a quantum of solace, but do you REALIZE you might have interrupted his text message or phone call? Now that WOULD be a tragedy!

ParticipantAs a former Winter Wimp, I feel like everything is falling into place:
- new n+1 winter bike (TREK CrossRip)
- fenders installed yesterday
- studded tires finally arrived
- bell installed
- GPS mounted
All I need now is wet weather covers for my feet and a waterproof rear-rack trunk bag!
Suggestions welcome!Fast Friendly Guy

^^^^^^^^^Awesome pic. How did you attach the hat?
It took me about a half hour this morning using upholstery thread, with tiny stitches in the brim looped through the vents in the helmet. Ironically, the hat’s too small for my head but works on the helmet. I’m getting ready for the Hains Point 100 on Sunday!

Reflective vests are the preferred item to give to runners. And yes, we do have leftovers.
Tim, OKAY! I volunteer to spread the gospel according to BikeArlington…Give as many as you can spare and I will politely and judiciously distribute to the worst offenders!

ParticipantI was riding SE on W&OD between Wilson and Columbia Pike this morning with Consularider when you passed us after a plank bridge. I recognized you because our paths cross on many mornings. Chris told me who you were. So THAT’S who you are! I’ve read your posts. Nice to meet you, Tom (if only briefly).
