ParticipantI saw a cookie monster adult onesie at Target yesterday and seriously considered buying it since it’s AMAZING… Sadly I think it’ll be a little too hot to bike in. I found an alternate cookie monster dress on Amazon that may do the trick.

The bridge to connect the wetlands trail on the Alexandria side of Four Mile Run to the Wayne F. Anderson Trail (aka Four Mile Run Park Trail) will be installed around 2 pm on Monday, September 16. If you are planning to come see the bridge installation, the optimal view will on the Arlington side of Four Mile Run.

I cannot wait until the trail is re-opened! The detour is totally safe, and honestly, might even be shorter than staying on the trail, but dear lord the Alexandria Renew pump station that the detour goes next to has been smelling something awful lately. It gives the Arlington water treatment facility that’s across the river a run for it’s money smell-wise.

Is it possible the light is not in rest in wait — i.e. the ped light turns white when the corresponding traffic light turns green, but the ped light counts down and goes to red before the traffic light goes yellow/red.
Nope. I waiting on red to turn left, got a green light, turned left asap, and walk signal was red. So unless it was a 5 second long walk/count down signal, it never turned.

So unfortunately it looks like they DID make this a beg button at the S Walter Reed Dr intersection. I was stopped and waiting for the crosswalk this morning and the 4MR traffic got the green but no crosswalk light, even with no left turn traffic and light. I almost missed it while chatting with another cyclist. So make sure you push that button when you get there . . . 😡
I noticed this while driving a few days ago. I was turning left off onto Walter Reed from Four Mile Run Drive after spending an exciting few hours at the Shirlington DMV, and of course checked the trail before turning left onto Walter Reed. That’s when I noticed that even though I had just gotten the green light on Four Mile Run Dr, the trail crossing was still a solid “do not cross”. I thought it was weird at the time but forgot to ask about it. There’s no left turn arrow at this intersection going south, so that wouldn’t be why it said “do not cross”.

Unfortunately I wont fit into an infant/toddler costume. If I could, I’d totally buy that one

ParticipantRegistered. I’m thinking cookie monster since I love cookies.

ParticipantI usually lock up around King and Royal on the racks there if the ones in front of City Hall are full. It’s easy to lock up. Del Ray has racks right at the corner too. I’ve never had an issue locking up at either farmers market.

ParticipantI’m so excited for this ride I might have accidentally registered for it twice…

A bit late in posting this, but I am registered and would be happy to join a team. Remember that I know how to safely make alcohol, which will be very valuable in a post-apocalyptic Arlington.
I may need to drop out, so you could perhaps take my slot on team renegade with Reji and Steve O if you’re interested…

ParticipantFrom Friday evening: 3 cars parked in the Crystal City Bike lane, directly next to the “don’t park in the bike lane” sign.

Honestly, unless they add barriers, those bike lanes are just uber/delivery drop off lanes. I wont ride in them.

… and so has my hip.
Ugh, so sorry to hear Glenn. Casey Kane had a break like that a few years back, and I also messed my hip up (torn cartilage) a few years back. Hip surgery is not fun. If I can offer 1 piece of advice: keep up with the PT. I extended mine around 6-8 weeks past the minimum, and I think that really allowed me to maintain flexibility and mobility. If you need anything, let me know.

Two Words: Case Bridge. It carries you above the fray. There are curb cuts and protected bike lanes all over the Banneker Circle area at the end of the L’Enfant Promenade, and recently a curb cut was added between the Park Police HQ parking lot and the I-395 ramp road making the (curbless) loop-around from the 14th St. Bridge even shorter. And if I can learn to navigate the Case Bridge switchback cleanly on my contraption, any cyclist can do it. See this ride: https://www.strava.com/activities/2536761700.
Yea…I did that route for a year or two. It adds a few extra minutes onto the commute, and I’m always running late. It might be worth it to try it again.

4) Lady coming out of the Fish Market completely oblivious to the fact that you just pulled out across a busy sidewalk in front of 2 cyclists. Not malicious, but totally clueless.
Either you were right behind me today, or this happened more than once this morning 😡 I have to bike to slow along this area to avoid clueless drivers every morning and evening.

ParticipantAfter seeing reports last night about how bad 4mrt was near Shirlington, I was SHOCKED by the fact the 4mrt turn off from the MVT was completely clear on my ride home from work. No debris, no water, no mud, nothing. Usually after flooding there’s at least a few nasty debris piles under the GW Parkway/Route 1 bridges. It was so clean I actually wonder if someone had gotten there and cleared it out already since I can’t imagine that area didn’t flood.

Could be a defect or, given the life of the worn tire, it could be some of the threads (around which the rubber is moulded) on the inside giving way allowing that bit of the rubber to expand.

That sounds about right. I just played with it, and you can tell that one layer of rubber came up and got air inside to make the bubble, but there’s still a layer of rubber on the inside below it, which has maintained the normal tire shape.
