Was the gate locked though? The gate was chained and had a padlock on Saturday morning.
Nope, not locked. We were able to ride through yesterday.

Anyone got any intel on the Lake Artemesia/WMATA/CSX underpass?
On Saturday, the Lake Artemesia gate was chained up and locked, and the underpass was a muddy mess. I am assuming that gate was locked due to the mess.
On Friday morning’s BTWD commute, I tried to pass through there (coming from the lake side), and my wheels were completely underwater within 3 seconds
Yesterday, there was a little mud in the tunnel and around it, but it was rideable.

ParticipantI tried to go under the train tracks in the corner of Lake Artemesia at ~7:20 am. There was water, but I thought I’d give it a try. Three seconds in, both wheels were completely under water…
I hung out at the College Park stop before riding in with my co-worker. We got to Freedom Plaza around 9:15 and almost everything was broken down…
I got my BTWD shirt though!

Holy frijoles!
Greenbelt, did you come up the Northeast Branch Trail today after work? The sections around East West Hwy and the Rte 1 split were closed because the trail was basically under the river.

And because of mstone’s poop comments (and common sense), I tried my best not to go in the water…at least not where I couldn’t see the bottom.

ParticipantAlong the Northeast Branch Trail, where it goes underneath the train tracks. I walked it, and in the deepest part (directly underneath the tracks), the water went up to mid-thigh to me. More surreal: there was a whole lotta fish bumping into me

… Surly Straggler …
I have a couple of bikes being made (1 each for me and my wife), so when we got our REI dividend and I half-jokingly said that we should use it on a Straggler for me, I got the death stare that sent shivers down my spine
I love that lilac color since it reminds me so much of my mid-90s Fat City Yo Eddy!

The Nats play their home opener tomorrow (Friday), weather permitting. Capital Bikeshare will have a CaBi bike corral at the 1st & N St SE station so that anyone can ride CaBi to the game without worrying about a lack of docks for the bike.
They have also expanded that station to 39 docks.
Is this generally the case, i.e., they do a CaBi corral at games so you don’t have to worry about where to drop it off when going to the game? Wife and I are going to tonight’s game and don’t want to spend a lot of time looking for a place to dock the CaBi. Also, is trying to get a CaBi at the end of the game an exercise in frustration?

It’s a Jeff Jones 3-D SpaceFrame, which I’ve been riding the heck out of since I got it in September 2008. It ticks the rigid, titanium, and singlespeed checkboxes, but once in a blue moon I’ll have it geared and/or with a fat front. It was made in the good ol’ U.S. of the A. by Merlin, but newer versions are made in Taiwan. I hear those ones ride just as well, and even have a little more rear tire clearance.
Since I got my Vertigo fat bike a little over 2 years ago, it has supplanted the Jones as my main mountain bike. The Jones sat lonely and crying in the basement as I chose the Vertigo 9.8 times out of 10 for my dirt rides. Feeling bad that I’ve been ignoring the Jones (and noticing Jeff setting up a lot of his new customer’s bikes with slicks), I threw on some big fat smooth tires and off-trail appropriate gearing, to see what the hubbub was.
Yes, it’s heavy the way it’s built now, but I feel invincible on it. The ride is smooth and the seating is upright, so it makes for a great ride in the city. It’s still a mountain bike, so I can jump stairs, climb over cars, and bunnyhop fallen pedestrians with aplomb
If it wasn’t so expensive, I’d be riding and locking it up everywhere on my road rides. Luckily, I have a guarded, limited-access, camera-monitored bike parking at work, so I don’t have to worry about it being pinched.
Some friends are balking that the Jones has become basically an uber expensive townie. Who cares. I love it (again).
