ParticipantEven though I’m British, old(er), and proper (ahem), I stopped using the left hand method long ago and adopted the right hand point. Like many I feel that it is more universally understood, plus most of the time the cars on my left or passing me are not effected much by my right turn, however the cars, cyclists or peds I am approaching need to know my intentions, and my right arm outstretched is easier for them to see.

Wonderful, wonderful commute today. Rainy and windy, but mild temperatures. An almost deserted MVT as well as a very pleasant ride into the city. Let’s hope this weather keeps up all day so that the tourists will stay inside this afternoon!
Totally agreed…. the Custis and WOD were empty today, lovely commute.

ParticipantSpotted a very determined rcannon100 yesterday on the Custis in Rosslyn, he was so focussed he completely missed; my extended hand for a low five, waving, calling his name, and eventually calling him a boob after he ignored me. Come to think of it… I hope that was him.

ParticipantI’ve posted this site before, someone’s fun side project, but it’s really cool!

Stop believing it’s a choice Bob.

ParticipantThree falls all in powder, but that last one was close as the snow was hiding a jagged metal post that nearly impaled me…. luckily I made snow angles not real ones.

ParticipantSooo, do I dust off the Bianchi with 23’s for the ride home, or is that like wearing linen before Spring? Gotta admit, this weather is making me giddy. Just taking the studs off Ollie for the first time in 2015 was a “Sweet Jesus” moment!

ParticipantI’ll say I’m coming but given my BAFS 2015 so far, I’ll probably have to skip it at the last minute.

I almost ran over Dickie’s tin can of a bike with my steel tank. Apparently Dickie feels he has the right to the entire opposing lane on the Fairfax Connector.
P.S. I also passed by KarenB on the WOD yesterday afternoon.
Thank god for your squealing brakes and erratic maneuvers or else I might not have spotted you in my lane. On a good note, you did wake me up.

The WOD between Gallows and Cedar is still interesting – the ice field’s smaller, but the wet ice makes studded tires feel almost meaningless. Ditto between Cedar and Adahi.
Yeah, that’s exactly how the MVT was this morning as well … BTW, good to see you before you headed into the abyss.

ParticipantSmall turn-out but great to see Steve and Kathy… apologies for my grumpiness, I think I sweated too much on the way there.

ParticipantSome really beautiful footage, thanks for sharing Pete… that make shift bridge was terrifying.

Can anyone give an update on the W&OD from Reston to Arlington? Is it an icy minefield, or is there a decent line?
From gallows to Custis it isn’t too bad. I rode 35mm studs and had no issues. A few ice fields, the usual suspects…. just before 495, the tennis courts after Shreve, and another few spots before Lee. Citizens bridge is still a mess. I could have ridden slicks the whole way if not for these few spots, but you could also walk them reasonably well now. Don’t know about Gallows to Reston…. GB rode it this morning, perhaps he’ll pipe in.
