Interesting that ddot has the info but not the park. That detour doesn’t look like fun for 7 months. They would be much better off closing a lane of the parkway for bikes & ped, but I know that is unlikely. At one of the first public meeting about this closure, someone asked about the possibility of using a traffic lane for ped/bike access instead of the posted detour on 19th Street. The Park Service said no, stating that drivers can’t be expected to adjust to this type of temporary change in their driving patterns.

ParticipantThe bike trail is being rebuilt between Virginia Avenue and the volleyball courts, with a new route tunneled through Roosevelt Bridge. In addition, the intersection where the parkway splits to go up to the Lincoln Memorial is getting rebuilt, removing the awkward “traffic circle”. So yeah…I’m glad the park service is working on this.

ParticipantI’ve biked many times to DCA to pick up rental cars or after dropping them off. When I use my bike, I get to the rental location by taking the trail past the south entrance and getting on the parking lot access road, taking it to Thomas Avenue and up to Smith Blvd. Why isn’t there a better connection to that access road from the trail?
I have ridden to the airport for a flight a few times, taking CaBi instead of my own bike. I would only have a backpack and a small duffel, which fit into the small rack fairly easily. Before the station was installed at the airport, I had to use a Crystal City dock and walk back along the connector trail.
I do wish there was a better way of getting to the terminals from the new dock, since it’s unsigned with no marked walkway. Are there any plans to reopen the sidewalk at the north end of the airport once the construction is done? This would be a great location for another dock.

One of the good things about wearing a mask while biking is not worrying about a mouthful of gnats

In the app on my Android, I have the note that I’m a Bike Angel, but when I click on that notification, I get a mostly empty screen.

ParticipantZack, are you working with the MWAA to put signage in at the airport directing people how to get to the bikeshare station?

Participant3/18/21 – Blue US Postal Service Collection Box
There’s a post office just two blocks away from where I live, and while I got a photo of the pair of boxes, I wanted to find one in the “wild”. That meant keeping off the usual bike trails and riding through the neighborhoods.
I found two in Ledroit Park (where I took this one).
