So what’s bike parking like there? Sounds like there could be as many as 30 bikes, which is way more than usual racks can hold. Is it ok if we lock up next to any old pole/tree/lamp/sign?
I vote for a “pop up” bike rack right in the first parallel parking space, as a way of demonstrating how many bikes you can fit into a single car spot.

They’re very happy to have us back, and we can set up anywhere there that we like.
I’m torn about outside vs. inside to start with (5:30 to ?), although we’ll have to go inside once we overflow available patio seating (usually about 12-14 people, since they need to accommodate other customers too) and for the TdF. Any preferences? Check weather before answering.
Tour isnt scheduled to reair until much later. Is there anyway that they can record it and have it playing while we are there??

Not familiar with that course, it might be more cyclocross-worthy. The top of the second descent on the Gran Fondo was a little sucky on the road tires, but totally manageable. And I’d definitely not want to push bigger tires for the rest of the loop just to make that section a little faster.
I used my “cross” bike for the Devil’s Backbone last year, and was glad I did. 32mm cross tires and compact gearing. There were still sections I ended up walking up and the main descent is one lane gravel road, that can be done fast if you’ve got the confidence that you’ll make the corners.

Compact gearing is definitely nice on that loop.
For the Gran Fondo I used compact gearing and 28mm road tires. I spun out gearing-wise a little on the downhills, but it was really nice on the uphills

Is that a Van Dessel G&T I see there? My brother-in-law rolls around town on one of those in Maxxis orange. Actually, its for sale right now. I love that bike.
Is that G&T still for sale?? What size is it??

ParticipantNon-issue. I emailed FABB who put me touch with the people in charge of the project and they have agreed to delay the start of their work day on Friday until 9AM

ParticipantWhat about closing only one lane of what could be developed into a full street closure later as participation is expanded?? Take one lane of Clarendon and one lane of Wilson from the top of Rosslyn to Ballston and set up x-over points at either end with police to create a loop. Once it becomes well attended move forward with the idea of completely closing one or the other. In the meantime, car traffic still has access, and foot traffic is increased, and a habit and expectation is hopefully established.

ParticipantIn the last couple of years I’ve been hitting the Dunn Loring stop, the Vienna, and Reston. Vienna seems to be the best combination of both location and food. Its right on the trail and last couple of years have had some snacks. Reston has more going on food, activity and raffle wise, but its farther out of the way if your not going to the town center.
