I imagine low power mopeds have modest emissions, but e-bikes have none?
E-bikes still have emissions; most electric power is still generated by coal & oil.
An electric vehicle just offsets the issue

Looks like fun. I’m like 98% in.
I’m up and down on this…
Dislike: multiple laps
However, I’m still interested

Guy on a modded bike with a motor decided to tail me eastbound on the W&OD just after Route 50 at around 6pm. I couldn’t discern quickly what was going on until he was right on my wheel and I was just about to pass a man with a child on his trailer and I realized the danger of it all. I let him pass and he then proceed going 25mph+ on a crowded trail leaving behind lots of exhaust. I reached him at Columbia Pike when he crossed to Four Mile Run without stopping and took the street instead.
Red frame with a 2 stroke motor? He passed me opposite direction late last summer on the MVT.

ParticipantI want to do this ride, but I’ll be at the VT-WVU game the night before and this weekend is the other hall’s birthday. I’m tapped out.
I will be at the Civil War Century the next weekend

ParticipantThank you all for the responses.
Allen, Lt. Dan, scoot, et al, thank you so much for the information, you confirmed what I suspected from surfing Google maps, Redfin, etc. which is look for a house south of 28. Redfin has multiple houses within our budget less than five miles of the train station. Even better, many are on half acre or larger lots.
We’re not looking to move until next spring summer at the earliest, but if we move out there, we will become VRE commuters; my office is a short walk from Union Station and hers from L’enfant Plaza. Ideally, I’ll bike to/from the Manassas station. What’s interesting is that to get to my office by 7am, I’ll have to catch the 05:13 or 05:43 am trains…which is about the same time I leave my I currently leave my place in Arlington to bike to my office.
I followed Bob James on Strava & I can only hope to ride half the distances that he rides.

That would do it. As would a $50 cordless angle grinder from the big box, plus five minutes. Any lock, pretty much.

Based on e-bikers I’ve seen on the MVT and in DC, they are also used to pass people on a flat, crowded trail doing 20+ mph plus, and also to dangerously cut off cyclists starting up from a red light.
I see plenty of “roadies” doing the same.
Regulate the behavior, not the tool

ParticipantSome upcoming rides in the region:
September 9th Civil War Century (May be sold out, but very scenic & if you do the full century over 6k ft of climbing)
September 17th Back Roads Century
September 24th Cannonball Century
October 1st Lifeline 100I’ve ridden both the Civil War and the Lifeline 100 and would recommend both. All are within the same travel distance from the city as Skyline.
I’m sure there are other upcoming events in the area I’m missing.
As far as trails, also check out the Anacostia River Trail. It doesn’t get as packed on the weekends and you can combine it with the Sligo Creek Trail & Capitol Crescent Trail to make a 40ish mile loop around the city.
