    Score one for me.

Sunday morning I went out early, crossed the wooden bridge north of Old Town on my way to Four Mile Run, came back around 8 am, as I approached the same wooden bridge, a nice older gentleman told me to be careful, it was slippery. He was correct! Even though there hadn’t been ice on the bridge when I left, it was now icy, when the bridge turned, I turned and my bike just kind of slowly slid out from under me and we went down. Fortunately, the soft wood broke my fall. Bike was OK. I have a skinned knee and a bruised butt cheek.

Damn, I was like 100 yds from home too.

I was descending a slippery, rooty downhill at Camp Tamarancho when my front wheel suddenly went to the left and my head went to the right causing me to headbutt a tree at a decent speed. It rung my bell, cracked my helmet, and made me feel like I lost about a 1/2″ in height. Luckily it was towards the end of the ride (always, amirite?). My neck and shoulders are still achey.

Again and again and again, this thread screams out for an empathy button.
Ribs, knees, butts, heads… amongst us we could soon cover a whole edition of Grey’s Anatomy.
Heal fast, everyone… sending virtual ibuprofen and icepacks.
Let’s hope no more crashes for the rest of the season.
    Hugs from w&w

I hate seeing this thread get bumped. I’m glad both of you are generally ok, and Drevil please take it easy. Sounds like a pretty serious fall, so be safe out there!

Thanks, will do. I always mountain bike as much as possible whenever visiting my brothers here in San Fran, but I think this one dirt ride is enough for this trip. Gonna stick to the Brompton and scoot around on the roads until the end of this trip.

My inaugural London Bridge entry: today upon arrival back at my condo. Was coming to a stop and getting ready to dismount before bringing my bike upstairs. Put my foot down on the smooth concrete and it slipped across it and down we went, Roo’s Ruze and I. Landed on my right knee and elbow but nothing major. Only thing hurt was my pride. But now RR has gotten his first fall out of the way. [emoji41]

Add me to the list. My first week with clipless pedals ended with my first fall of the season: an uphill hairpin turn on gravel, getting off the Georgetown Branch Trail, in the dark. I lost too much momentum, and the bike and I toppled over. It was surprisingly sudden! I’m fine, the bike’s fine, and thankfully the guy I passed on the bridge over Rock Creek hadn’t caught up to see!!

Next time will be in traffic, no doubt.

Ouch. Glad that you and the bike are OK, and that you escaped with your dignity intact as well.

Likewise I am glad you are not hurt. OTOH, it builds character to do the forgot-to-clip-out tipover with a lot of people around. Hopefully you will have a chance to join the club.

I joined the Bikenetic C&O ride on Sunday and it was lovely. Until we rode back up 41st St N. Once I hit the switchbacks at the top I forgot to downshift. Combined with my poor slow-speed handling skills (something I really should practice, honestly) I came to a near stop and toppled in slow motion, drive-side down (always drive-side down!). I at least rolled my body as I went, so it was physically painless, but there were witnesses. 😮

If it makes you feel any better, I had a friend who was trying out 41st street for the first time, end up spraining his wrist when he toppled over near the top!
