ParticipantGood to finally get a wave at Will this morning. I felt bad being a distraction at that intersection (crossing Kirby SB on Westmoreland), which is kind of unnerving. I would love to see a shoulder installed on that stretch.

At least I wasn’t on a cell phone.
Yeah I finally got to visually confirm it was actually you by face rather than going on bike/clothing shape/colour/etc.
P.S. Weren’t you warm in that??

Yeah, definitely warm, but not terrible…but my lighter jacket really needed a wash, so I didn’t have anything else to wear. Thankfully my ride is only 25ish minutes, so even if I do overheat a bit, there’s no risk of follow-on freezing. And I shower at work, so I don’t need to worry about trying to stay dry or anything.

Cute bikes!
I think I’ve been hanging around Pete too much.
It was like Beauty and the Beast bike wise. DCV’s appropriately sized fixed carbon racer (@14lbs) and my overgrown commuting battle cruiser (@40ish lbs)

ParticipantDid I have a crysb sighting this morning? It was on the W&OD near where the Custis joins in; you were going west and I was going east at about 7:30-7:45 a.m. I called out a hello, but that was after we’d already passed.
If it was you, let me know — next time I’ll turn around and try to catch you for a photo.

Let’s just say we had a slight disagreement on the definition of stop. And this was a first.
The ticket for failure to obey a traffic device was dismissed this week.

Well, go on. Tell us more about what happened!
(For those that don’t remember, this was at a stop sign at Hains Point)

The first Friday in August I was off work and decided to attend the Friday morning coffee group. On the way there I decided to ride a couple of Hains Point laps. There were lots of other riders out there that morning. After my first loop I was headed east past the tennis courts on Buckeye Dr when I saw a NPS police cruiser parked on the median across from the stop sign at Ohio Dr. I slowed as I approached the intersection, stopped pedaling, stuck out my right arm to indicate my intention to turn, and braked. I estimate I had no forward momentum for 2 to 3 seconds before I turned right (but did not unclip and put a foot down). As I came out of my turn, the officer yelled out of his window that there was a stop sign. I foolishly answered back that I did stop. As I headed south on Ohio Dr, the officer put on his flashing lights and pulled out and briefly hit his siren, pulling me over. As he came toward me, I again foolishly said something like, “Putting a foot down is not required to stop a bicycle.” He just asked me for my id, then asked if it had my current address, and then took it and went back to his cruiser. That’s when Tim and the group rode by me. After about ten minutes, the officer came back with the ticket written out. I told him I would be contesting it, and he said fine. I had 60 days to either pay the $25 fine or request a review. I actually thought about just paying it since I expected that if I contested it and lost, I’d also have to pay court costs. In the end I basically wrote up what I’ve said here and requested a review by the DC DMV office which handles the traffic tickets. This week I got a postcard in the mail saying that on further review, the government had failed to prove it’s case and the ticket was dismissed.

ParticipantHad a good ride home with Jim. He was taking the long way home… getting in some extra miles. Hadn’t met him before. (Damn I hope I remembered his name correctly. It was a long, long, long week and mind hadn’t switched off from work yet. The pic turned out pretty well though!)
Rock on, sir! Nice riding with you today.

ParticipantI must be having a bad day, I’m racking my brain trying to think of a smart comment about Dirt riding his fat troll and I just can’t.
