Yes! I saw you too but recognition came too late. I was busy looking around for potential U-turning taxis and enjoying the view (I don’t ride there often – first/last time was TJROW).
Right after I saw you I had a nice conversation with a gentleman in a MD sewage truck. Actually he was having a conversation on his cell phone while trying to turn through me, another cyclist legally riding the opposite direction, and a jaywalker. We all converged in the middle of the block. I think the other cyclist smiled at me when I loudly told the man there were no turns, but maybe she was just flirting (Gloves hide my wedding band). Phone talking driver moved on. I thought he was going to roll down the window when we stopped together at the next light, but I think his phone conversation was too engrossing.
But yeah, I usually recognize people about ten feet after I pass them. Sometimes I manage to exchange that look where you know you recognize someone but your brain hasn’t quite processed things yet and you can’t get beyond “yes I know you” and then you’ve passed. Such is cycling.

You saw a white steel bike w/ mustache bars, didn’t you?

The Black Death – caused by rats, or the advent of preschool?
rats, toddlers, same difference… we’ve had something low-level going around at home for the last few weeks. yesterday we got an email that they found lice in one of the other preschool kids.

Yeah, it’s a cool piece of infrastructure but it goes through so many intersections that it makes me feel vulnerable being right in the middle of the street (that, and not being familiar with the traffic/lights patterns around there).
I’m the same – even with DC area monuments like Tim and Dirt. (Although I did once follow a guy on the W&OD who I thought was Tim, but he turned out to be riding a Motobecane and was possibly even taller. I swear his seatpost was longer than the diameter of a 700c wheel.)

I was riding to keep the group in touch with each other… so that is the angle that I saw of most people yesterday. I played a little on the last of the climbs and on the ride home. It was a seriously fun day out.

ParticipantDid I see dasgeh and her offspring mobilization vehicle heading east on Custis in Rosslyn at around 1700 today? We crossed pretty quickly and the light was not good. I said a quick “hi” anyways.
I also saw crysb crossing Fort Myer a little before 0700. She was solving the problems of the universe.
Rock on, kids.

ParticipantSaw Dirt heading west on Constitution, crossing 15th while I was at the light. He appeared to be riding some sort of geared contraption so I was momentarily confused.

ParticipantI didn’t see anyone when I rode home between 2200 and 2300 this evening. But the moon was lovely.

That was the Tweed. Fixie, but with 2 different gear ratios. I can change to an easier gear by removing the rear wheel and moving the chain from the outside ring and cog to the inside. Since cogs and rings each differ by 2 teeth, they use the same chain length and thus do not require me to change the setting on the eccentric.

Probably not–my bet is that she’s not making the evening commute now that she’s been birthing babies over the weekend…
