ParticipantI saw a cyclist stopped on Hains Point this morning, I assume for a stop sign infraction. Really nice when the three cars that passed me on the south side of the point were all exceeding 20mph (The limit there is 15, as far as I can tell) and two were probably over 30mph. Priorities, NPS. Priorities.

I think it’s 25 actually, cuz I’m always proud of myself when I can “speed” there
If NPS really wants to enforce, then they need to hang out on Thursday evening and give a lecture to the hot laps peloton. I’m kinda tired of being at a stop and having those guys en masse go blowing past me, on the right, weaving in and out of cars, generally being jerk-y…

ParticipantI think it depends where you are – the north side of the point has a 15mph sign, and as you go around the tip of the point I didn’t notice another sign. I think it goes back to 25 after you go through the stop sign. Regardless, at least one of those cars was well over 25. I was around 19 when he blew by like I wasn’t moving.

There’s a sign that looks like a speed limit sign but says “Reduced Speed 15” near the south end picnic area. I’ve seen USPP cars there watching traffic and have tried repeatedly to get them to pull me over for speeding so I could argue the sign’s legitimacy in court. No dice.

ParticipantI was at Hains Pt last night about 5:00. There were two cops parked there watching the cyclists. I came to a “momentary-pause-no-foot-down” stop at the sign (not a true track stand either), and wasn’t bothered.

ParticipantThought I had a Dirt sighting at the end of the WO&D trail today less than a mile from the end of the trail in Purcellville. Then I saw him later and I am pretty sure it was Dirt’s twin complete with pink jersey.

Oh lord, they’re cloning him! There will be simultaneous Dirt sightings all over the state, maybe even the entire mid-Atlantic. The trails from North Carolina to New Jersey will be filled with the sounds of singing cyclists on silent bikes. There will be more pink than a Christo installation.

Dirt is still the kingI’ve never been clear on this point: Does Dirt need boats, or does Dirt eat boats? 25 years of listening to that song, and I still hear it different each time.
