consularrider sighting (and greeting) this morning on the MVT! Not too many out there with those Salsa shorts.

I hope that guy you were drafting was a friend. :p

Saw OneEighth leaving Hains Point. He went by me like I wasn’t even pedaling. The really humiliating part was he was riding no-hands and smoking a cigar.

Haha. I never quite know what to do in those situations, when you ride fast enough to catch up to someone (at least on a stretch), but you don’t really want to overtake them and then slow them down. Especially on a narrow + high traffic trail like the MVT. I could’ve gone past him, but not easily, and I was tired today so he probably would’ve ended up wanting to overtake me soon enough. He was signalling consistently to me, so he can’t have been too annoyed. In any case, he was great to draft off! Nice pace and a decent amount of headwind on that stretch to be cancelled out. :D

Okay, I might have made up that last part.

Well, I am trying to channel my inner Hugh Jackman.

Generally when OneEighth passes me (the only real possibility if we are on the trail together), I am the one being smoked like a cigar. I don’t know if my ego could deal with the concept of dual smokage!

One time I was with OneEighth in the back of a pickup truck, along with a live deer. OneEighth goes up to the deer and says, ‘I’m OneEighth! SAY IT!’ Then he manipulates the deer’s lips in such a way as to make it say, ‘OneEighth’ … It wasn’t exactly perfect, but it was pretty good for a deer!

Deer belong on the fender. Moose, buffalo, and bear can go in the bed of the truck.

Are the “bear cans” empty or full when they go into the back of the truck?

If I have gas money and don’t need the aluminum, I prefer to pitch the nearly-empties at bicyclists. Sorta like skeet, but less snooty.
