I got to draft ShawnoftheDread for a while this morning on the MVT
I was not slick enough to manage to get my phone out for a picture though.
I think the cool kids (aka Dirt) use a small point-and-shoot. Punching in that iPhone access code is a bit of a pain while steering.

Dirt,
Was that you and another gent (couldn’t make out who) on the W&OD today (Sunday) at about milemarker 13 at about 9am? Nice tires!
Sorry for the slow response. Yup. That was TubaTransport and me coming back from riding the north end of the CCT. We rode Lake Fairfax, CCT, Great Falls, What’s left of the completely devastated trails Riverbend Park, Great Falls again, CCT again and then home. Lovely day for it.

All I need is a LOT more momentum.Fun day on the bike. Riverbend is not a happy place right now. Fairfax doesn’t have the staffing to really deal with all the downed trees from the big storm. They’re working on it as well as they can, but there are still many, many dozens of big trees down across the trail. I haven’t ridden Riverbend in a year and what’s worse is that it seems like no-one else has either. The more common loop through the park was completely overgrown. Had I not been one of the folks that built the trail, I would not have known where it was. This is no-one’s fault but my own. I have been off the mountain bike so much that I haven’t been riding these trails. No-one else really took up the torch either. I will search for and hopefully cut out a good loop through there when I get back from vacation. That will give the park folks a bit more time to clear stuff out.

Affirmative. Even the best camera phones I’ve ever seen don’t shoot well enough for me to use them on the bike. A good point and shoot camera is also much, much more durable than a phone is… even with a special case around the phone.
you can see my camera case strapped to the top tube just behind the stem on my bike:
Rock on, folks! Keep posting up those sighting photos. It is nice to see other people get spotted.
I love this community.

Just strap a chainsaw to a rack and have at it on your next ride.

I’ve done that in a few places, but doing so on park land is a HUGE no-no. Even hand sawing fallen branches is officially frowned upon (but usually overlooked since it really helps people out). I keep a folding tree saw and clippers in my camelback when I ride. When I ride fixie, however, I usually travel light and just carry 3 water bottles and stuff in my jersey pockets. I’m regretting not having the saw with me last weekend.

I’m tempted to have my Phil’s rebuilt with those…just ‘cuz.Phil wood laced to h+sons formation face (no braking surface). I want to change to a lighter wheelset. I have a set of velocity aeroheads and they spin up so fast.

Sweet.
Glad your mug shot got on the thread courtesy of Pete. I was hunting that jersey/messenger bag combo up the Custis yesterday, but what are the odds with both of us on fixies heading in the same direction?

ParticipantRan into Mark this morning in Marshall as well as a few other Forum posters. No camera, so no photos, so I guess it didn’t happen. They were gone before my group got back from Mt Weather.

ParticipantSaw Rootchopper by the power plant on his Bike Friday heading home. The lesson here is we don’t need swag to identify each other, we just need distinctive rides.

Participantvvill sighting!*
Good talking to you. It was actually fun to to share the lousiest part of your commute with you this morning.
*Lack of evidence by way of a photo due entirely to prohibitive compatability issues related to operating an iPhone in rush hour traffic while wearing full-finger gloves.

ParticipantGood to talk to you too! (even if I was distracted most of the time checking out your bike.)
The lousiest part of my commute is still better than the best part of my work day.
