No, you’re supposed to keep rolling, but with your foot hanging over the railing.
I believe during ‘cross season, proper etiquette dictates the eastbound rider first give a hearty “hup hup,” then jump off the bike while moving, shoulder it, hop over the barrier, run at least 50ft, then hop back over the barrier and remount while running.

ParticipantLooks like there is a theme park in the UK named after one of our members, Dismaland: http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2015/08/21/inside-banksys-creepy-new-exhibit-dismaland/

Ah, that’s why the shoulder is so wide there.

I thought that I was following proper etiquette, but I obviously was so overwhelmed by meeting bike royalty, that I forgot the “hup hup” protocol.

ParticipantMeanwhile, back on August 12th, on Pennsylvania Ave, in front of the International Monetary Fund building, I had this paparazzi moment with a local cycling celebrity while riding a Cabi bike

ParticipantSaw ginacico at Banneker Park, presumably on her way to pancakes. Sorry my brain didn’t catch up until we’d passed.

ParticipantTwo sightings to report:
Sunday afternoon: Mikey with a gaggle of #kidical by Citizen’s Bridge on the W&OD. Quick, friendly wave.
This morning: nice 1-mile chat with Powerful Pete into Rosslyn on the Custis.
Have a great day!

ParticipantIndeed kind sir, it was a pleasure and a honor to share a wee bit of our commute this AM. May the wind always be behind you and all the false flats in your gravitational favor! 😀

ParticipantFast Friendly Guy this morning on the MVT. I know, I know…it’s nothing special. We all see him just about every day. Still, it makes my day to start it by waving to Dave.

ParticipantI think I saw KWL today at the West End Farmer’s market in Alexandria. Or it just could have been another guy with a purple Bridgestone. I was there with the lovely Carolyn and the baby and we had driven there. I didn’t yell out to say hi since I just couldn’t be sure if it was him. But he was tall and wearing a Beaver jersey.
