Powerful Pete
ParticipantThoroughly enjoyable ride into DC along the Custis with Wheels & Wings.
A pleasure and an honor to commute in the general direction of work this AM!

ParticipantI spent of couple of pedal strokes with Ian74 on the MVT this evening. Pleased to meet you, sir. His pace is much faster than mine, so pretty quickly this was the view. It was actually much worse than it looks. I cheated and used the 10x zoom, trying to catch him with my camera if not my legs.

ParticipantPretty sure I flew by PC-Chile this morning on the Custis near Quincy. Yelled out at the last sec, but I don’t think she noticed me. She was riding pretty good for someone who racked up all those hills on Sunday.

ParticipantWas that dbb I passed as he hammered up the MVT connector to the IoD this evening? There are not too many beards like that out on the trail. I would have shouted a greeting, but you were gone in a trice.

If “hammered,” most likely not dbb.

ParticipantGot to race DGM in her car from Longfellow elementary to Westover. I won.
First sighting, just past Kirby…she yells “Nice socks!”
Second sighting at Haycock, I yell “hey neighbor!” and the race is on….
She gets ahead, but I catch up again at Fairfax.
I then filtered a bit coming across the 66 overpass before Sycamore and got ahead for good (I think…).

Indeed it was me. I would agree with Mr. Cannon in his my assessment of my (lack of) willingness to hammer. Even if I were to follow the “Folks using testosterone pathches, asthma inhallers, … Cheating?” thread I am likely not going to get to the hammer point. The two sisters seemed to miss me (I’ve not ridden the loop much in the past several months) cause they encouraged me to linger with them.
Just the other side of Lee Highway, I passed Dickey. His boss must have let him off early. He seemed a bit shocked to see me out that way.
My presence on the Custis today was an artifact of Monday’s flat-fest. When I looked at the tire that flatted, it was squared off and probably only had a couple of hundred miles left. Rather than fix than replace in the immediate future, I called Bikenetics and ordered two new Gatorskins (the old ones lasted about 4K miles). Rode out after work to pick them up. On the ride back with the tires strapped to my backpack a fellow cyclist commended me for my choice of tires.
Note: My choice of Gatorskins for the road bike and Schwalb Marathons for the hybrid is a direct result of the advice everybody on the forum has offered. Thanks to you all!

I can vouch for this. Met up with dasgeh at the top of the Rosslyn hill. Good to see her back on the bike!

ParticipantWas that Hans I passed on Sycamore? I was totally lost in thought (bemoaning the detour around Westmoreland) and only saw you at the last second.

ParticipantNo, you’re supposed to keep rolling, but with your foot hanging over the railing.
