Was that Rod Smith on PA Ave? I was annoyed at having to pass some shoalers and trying to make the light and didn’t see you until I was nearly past you.

The guy with a huge trailer shouting “Hey John”? What makes you think that was me? I was trying to be incognito with my face shaved.

Dismal spotted me today and shouted Hey Rod. I think I got a Hey Mark off before he was past me.

Was that Dasgeh that passed me on the Custis this AM (just prior to the roller section)? I was doing a “run commute” wearing a bright orange backpack.

Very possibly. There were TONS of people out today, way more than I’m used to on the late shift ;-) I was on the very yellow bike with my distinctive blue plaid, brimmed helmet… If so, hi. Hopefully I was polite and pleasant (always my goal with runners, not that I’m always successful) :-)

Yup, it was you (plaid helmet is a dead giveaway). And yes, you win the award for “best pass call” this AM – it was clear and came a good 3 seconds before you actually passed, which is always appreciated. Not so for the dude (on an e-bike I think) right behind you who executed a no call pass with a good 2.5 inches of clearance.

Was that pink shorts guy? He was super annoying — he was on the path where I got on (Lincoln St). I passed him and another group (did you see them — really big guy with two women behind) before the over pass. I’m pedaling along, then right before the last hill hop to Lee Hwy in Rosslyn, he passes me. Ok. But then proceeds to slow down and take the downhill SUPER slow (which, coming from me, says something). Fine. Past the IoD, it’s clear that he’s just not all that fast, but I didn’t get a chance to pass him again until the hill up to the TR Bridge — which he was HAMMERING, I think to keep me from passing. Ugh. I don’t mind being passed by people faster than me, but if you have to go all out just to pass someone or keep them from passing, and you’re not willing to keep going all out, you’re just being a jerk.

But speaking of ebikes, I did beat one up Capitol Hill this morning on my road bike. Hooray! Too bad my phone has shut off so I didn’t Strava it :-(

Not sure if he had pink shorts…he passed you on the uphill just before the “bridge to nowhere” and I doubt he called that pass too. I did see the group with one dude/two women; they didn’t appear to be in any kind of hurry.

Yeah, too bad you didn’t Strava…I’m obsessed with the “activity playback” function!

Oh, right, that guy. Yeah, no call, super close, no reason. He was also trucking. I didn’t check whether he was e-biked, but that makes me feel a bit better, since otherwise, I was super fast this morning.

I am looking much happier than I was feeling after battling the wind.

I’m pretty certain that young boy took it upon himself to chase me down before bonking during the last few miles. Granted, he was just finishing a 50+ miler and admitted he hadn’t had enough sugar (ahh to be young), but we kept a good pace and had some good conversations. Nice riding with the whipper snapper, and I believe we both filled our trophy cases a little.
