I hit the pavement pretty hard right after the castle hill on the W&OD. I tried my best to dress my wounds as cyclist after cyclist passed me by without any attempt to see if I was OK. Only 1 out of more than 30 riders asked if I needed help while I sat there bleeding on the side of the road. Americancyclo was awesome… he spotted me and stopped to see if I was OK, which now knowing he was on the tail end of a century is even more respectful! He accompanied me for a few miles before I headed on my way to meet my wife at Liberty tavern. I feel stupid and sore….but no broken bones or bicycle parts….. the beers at the tavern helped, and then Baiskeli stopped in and had a beer with us as well…. so not a bad way to end a crap day.
Glad you’re all right, and that sucks that you were ignored so many times.
I was trying to think of the closest bathroom facilities you could use to clean up, and it looks like Madison Manor Park has a bathroom. The next one (if you’re heading towards the Custis) would be in Bon Air Park just near where the Custis goes underneath I-66. Just an FYI for anyone on the trail around there for future accidents.

I just can’t believe that no one has pointed you toward Rule #5 yet. Slackers everywhere.

ParticipantSaw who I believe was Mr. Dread at the Dreaded Lynn/Lee intersection on my way to work. He was on the other side of Lee appropriately waiting to cross Lynn, but was head down.

Could have been — I was wearing my very blue BTWD shirt.

ParticipantSaw Rick again, at GMason and Bluemont Junction (I was cloaked in my quadcycle… tho my bike was on the back having left the quadcycle at camp and bicycled the rest of the way in)

ParticipantA Dickie sighting this morning! Near the MVT/FMV split off, no less. Great to see you! It’s a beautiful day for a bike ride!

Great to see you this morning Kathy, I’ve missed your smiling face!

Sorry Chris, had my head in the clouds for a few seconds…. heard you yell “Dickie”, and I yelled back but I wasn’t positive it was you. You might have caught up to Carolyn as she turned around at Graverly point.
Had a brief but nice interaction with RandoGuy crossing Columbia Pike on 4MR as well.

Did I pass you on the 4MRT heading west at about 8AM?

I think so, we ride in opposite directions but I am pretty sure I have seen you nearly every day for the last week. Do you cross at Gallows as well on your way in? Yesterday I was with my wife on Van Buren St heading South crossing Westmoreland and I think you came towards us.. I said “hi” but you didn’t hear me…. have you been wearing sun block on your face lately?

ParticipantI also think that I saw Dickie on 4MRT going through one of the underpasses.

ParticipantOk, is Dickie everywhere or just more memorable?

ParticipantDickie: Glad to know it was you. Yes: I have had to put on a lot of sunblock lately because of an allergic reaction I had to some unknown substance. I usually leave home in Vienna at about 6:40; I’m 1-1/2 miles from Gallows. I take the W&OD to 4MRT to the MVT. Would like to stop and talk sometime.
