Tomorrow looks a little more moderate, so I’m planning to bike in then. Probably to FMCCIII, come to think of it.
Hmmm, I’m not sure today turned out to be much more moderate, but at least I biked in
Apparently I passed dcv. FMCCIII was sparsely attended but K1SG and Greg were there.

I’m still debating whether to bike or bus in. I don’t mind getting soaked, but the half hour afterwards of cleaning is disheartening. I now have six rags caked in aluminum dust – all metal that was perfectly good rim on Wednesday.
+1 for disc brakes (if I understand you right). But I also don’t clean my bike after riding in the rain. I do lube the chain after taking it through days like today, though. After it dries off, anyway.

ParticipantI freaking LOVE riding on days like this! It makes me feel like Lt. Dan on the shrimp boat. My only regret is getting out of the house too late to make FCC this morning.

ParticipantFor you speedsters doing the Freshbikes/TNR loop, the corner of Westmoreland and Williamsburg is loaded with gravel, much more than yesterday, so take that corner a tad bit slower. Not that I am a speedster, but i almost wiped-out doing my normal commute in.

ParticipantAlso, the guy on the classic red and yellow Masi Gran with the down shifters, way to dust me with an awesome bike!
My brother has that exact bike, and one of our holiday get togethers when he is not looking, it will be missing from his garage!October 16, 2013 at 1:55 pm #983691jabberwocky
ParticipantI haven’t been on the bike for a few weeks (life/work/vacation/etc). Oversleeping almost derailed my plans to get out this morning, but I fortunately prepared everything last night and was able to get a ride in. Commute was totally non-eventful and just what I needed.

ParticipantAnyone else see the police officers monitoring the Ft Myer / Lee Hwy intersection in Rosslyn this morning? This is the second time I’ve seen them in about a month. Today they were writing a motorist a ticket. If they can manage to make drivers behave at Lynn St / Lee Hwy, I’m all for it!

Yup. There were two motorcycle officers there this morning around 10 til 7. Looked to be just getting set up at that point.

They’ve been there pretty regularly since last week, I think. Despite the shutdown, traffic has been pretty heavy through there, so I’m happy to have them there. Seems like the people turning onto Lynn from 66 have been a bit less impatient with them there.

They were still there after 7:30 when I went by.

ParticipantYesterday (afternoon, not morning), I saw a one-legged cyclist riding on the MVT. Since I was riding on CaBi, everyone was passing me as usual. Plus I was just relaxing on my way back. Another cyclist on a road bike passed me. Something looked different as he rode ahead. Then I noticed that he was pedaling with just his right leg. I thought that maybe he was doing a one-leg drill, which is usually done on a stationary bike or trainer. But I could tell that he didn’t have a left leg at all.
Very cool to be out there riding, but I know that one-leg pedaling tires you out quickly. (At least it tires me out quickly when I do one-leg drills on a stationary bike.) He took a break after a bit and coasted. Has anyone seen him on the trails before? He appeared to be very fit.

Younger guy? I saw him about a month ago on the W&OD in Falls Church. Badass.

Yeah, he blew by me a couple weeks ago, going over one of the DCA overpasses, and I wasn’t going slow. I was totally impressed, yet at the same time disappointed he didn’t call his pass. If my cynicism was ever in doubt….

ParticipantDid my first bike commute to work since the shutdown. It felt great to be back in the saddle. It’s amazing how much the light situation changed in just a few weeks though! And I swear the MVT got bumpier, or maybe I just pumped up my tires.
