Did my shutdown commute today. Ie. picked up the kid from preschool in the new weehoo. I think she may actually have shouted “weehoo” she was having so much fun.

If it was yesterday I was in work clothes (dress shirt, sharkskin pants) so that wasn’t me. Besides, I’m usually the guy that vocally calls out the ELITE needledicks that don’t call their passes and do dumb sheeit like passing up the middle. I also look not too dissimilar from this so I’m pretty easy to identify:

We saw the pic of you at the Orioles game; you are definitely smaller than that. Congrats on losing 1 lb a week (I wish I could do that).

Had to take an unexpected 3-mile detour to drop the kid off this morning. Usually Research Rd (in Greenbelt) is closed on federal holidays and weekends, but they leave the pedestrian gate open. Today it was padlocked shut.

Hadn’t pondered the scale of an Apartment Complex School Bus stop before.

I have one along my commute in Reston and it is insane. I’m pretty sure that one stop pretty much fills up the bus. I don’t mind stopping for buses, but the annoying thing is that a lot of the families don’t actually wait for the bus, they just watch out the window and then come out when it shows up. Which means that kids are running in ones and twos across the complex and loading onto the bus for like 5 minutes.

Was this in Arlington? We’ve been told APS tries to break up the apt complex stops – i.e. kids will be assigned stops so that only X # are getting on at any one stop…

Dare I say the best commute yet? The Pentagon Bus station is long, my bus unloads far from the end, and you pretty much have to walk your bike through parts of it, so I can either time it from actually getting off the bus, or from near the end of the bus stop. From the latter – I left at 7:28, made to M and 3rd at 8:04. only 36 minutes. Even timing from getting off the bus, it was about 39 minutes. Thats my best time yet. Its getting close to the metrorail trip on a bad (but not dsastrous) day.

It sure helps to have recently fully inflated the tires. The hills (Connector Rd, Humpback, and 14st bridge) are getting a tad easier.

I look forward to doing this on a more suitable bike.

btw, LBJ grove and MVT were open and had plenty of cyclists (and runners on the MVT)

Congrats on the improving commute. Try to take the stairs whenever you can. They will build your quads and make hill climbing easier (plus make your heart stronger). And yes, getting a lighter bike with skinnier tires will make life easier.

Was great. I had nowhere to go and took the hilly way there.
I’d be up for a ride out the W&OD for BBQ tomorrow…

It’s in the dark and wild stretches of western Fairfax; but it’s only like a mile, that’s why I don’t usually bother. :) They had fun. Took about as long to get the bikes locked to the darn wheel bender as to get there.

Do they otherwise walk? Or bus/car?

Usually car. Too young to walk by themselves, and not enough time to walk them there with the 3 year old and still get to work.

    Why not bus?
