Serves you right for getting between a man and his morning coffee.
Coffee is better at Cassat’s anyway. Or so I’m told.

That area is terrible to drive through, too. It’s on my regular car commute and you have to wade through there to turn on to Lorcom (no left turn from Old Dominion/Lee).
Subby, I dont know what you are talking about. People turn left on to Lorcom ALL THE TIME.
Oooooooooooh! You mean “No legal left turn on to Lorcom”
What was that recent article about the correlation between income and car scofflaws? This is where all the McLean A$$clowns make their way home, turning between Lorcom and Old Dumb. Going west they never have seen a red light they need to stop for.
This is mini-intersection of doom. As Oldways, VDOT controls Old Dumb/ Route 29 and therefore aint no nothing going be done about it.

ParticipantTotally agree that that intersection is mini-doomsville. I also used to drive through there on my morning commute to Lorcom Ln (and on my way back to McLean, too). I would often leave early enough to make that left turn legally though because I hated getting stuck in traffic. Now I don’t have that issue!
On a brighter note, Lee Highway/Old Dumb from the Italian Store up to Marymount is a fun gradual climb – if you can hack the car traffic. Also, I’m impressed my post got so many replies / related posts. Hooray!

ParticipantGlad to see the 6 inches of standing water was gone from the Virginia/23rd St. underpass this morning. Last night I had to dismount and walk my bike through. Thankfully, there’s a raised curb (not quite a sidewalk) through the tunnel that was still just above the water level, so my feet just got a little wet (thanks cars for splashing!).

ParticipantAaaah… may summer be gone til next year. This morning was glorious!
I rode in with my Burley D’Lite in tow, though this morning it contained only the panniers I didn’t put on my rear rack. I took the afternoon off; my wife and 16 month old son are coming into the District to meet me at the office and go to a museum. After museum visit, I’ll be biking home with the little guy! It’ll be his longest trip by trailer so far. Needless to say, I am VERY excited about the afternoon commute.
Saw one of these on a woman’s bike on the ride in. Made me smile.

ParticipantI apologize to all those who thought a rattrap bucket of squeaking bolts was coming down the Custis trail this morning. I’ve been commuting on a carbon road bike the last couple months because my cross bike has been acting up. I finally stripped it down to the bare frame, cleaned everything and reassembled. One big problem had been creaking from the rear wheel. I oiled each spoke at the rim and hub, hoping that would help. Well it did–for about a mile. Then it was back to being the loudest, pingiest, squeakiest bike on the road. I’m not sure what to do with that damn rear wheel. I’ve got my first cross race of the year on Sunday, and I’m going to throw the cross clincher tire on my road bike rear wheel. I’ve got a set of cross tubulars, but I keep procrastinating on stripping the glue off the rims to reglue them, and now it’s too late to do it for Sunday.

Last night, I was headed West on VA, and when I saw then water, I slammed on the brakes, just barely past the start of the curb between the lanes that go down and the lanes that go to 23rd. There was a guy on a bike with an empty trailabike behind me and I yelled “standing water”. He stopped even later than me, but we both made it to 23rd safely and had a nice chat.
Overall, last night’s commute was AMAZING. I had resigned myself to the fact that I would be pedaling through a storm, but it was barely misting by the time I left. Plus, there were very few people out on the trail (good for me, bad for bike counts), and it had cooled down considerably. Plus, the cars were moving at a crawl, so I flew by them.
Plus, my back felt great. Plus, either because I had the rest (for my back) or because I was annoyed with a car at the intersection of doom, I FLEW up the Rosslyn hill. WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. It was a great night to be back on the bike. September 13, 2013 at 6:50 pm #981252Subby
ParticipantGod bless whomever created The M Street Shuffle segment. What a great feeling to do your same old everyday commute and then find out you have an out-of-nowhere top 10 on a new segment. An unexpected present!
Rumor has it that vvill created it after getting M Street with all greens, but it’s just a rumor at this point.

Strava claims I’ve never ridden it. Except every day.

ParticipantThere are some new segments that Strava does not seem to be backfilling. Similar are the east and westbound crossings of the 14th street bridge.

Apparently, I’ve never gone that way either.

ParticipantFirst time hauling my kid with a trailer, and I started off a couple minutes late to boot!
I have to say, the trailer opens up some possibilities for my family, but I’m really glad I can still squeeze my eldest into the iBert front seat.

ParticipantLast night was fun. I was climbing out of our underground parking garage when poof, the pedal just popped off. So I decided to walk it to the bike shop on Q St NW and at one of this crosswalks, this woman is just paying zero attention (looking at her phone) so move my bike in toward me to avoid her walking into it. Of course then it ends up scraping my leg. Flip side, got some new pedals and the whole thing only cost me 30 minutes and a nasty but not too bad cut.

Turns out the tension bolt sheared off somewhere. Argh. That saddle took 500 miles to break in. I don’t want to start again!Update: Velo-Orange shipped me a new bolt the next week (for free!).
