Sort of. It replaces a 2.7 mile stretch of the Custis trail from Washington and Lee High School all the way down to the intersection of doom at Lynn/Lee Highway. Note: the section between N. Rhodes St. and N. Scott is a little-used pedestrian/bike trail that includes a very short, steep uphill as you head towards DC. It then ends in an apartment complex parking lot where you link up with N. Scott St.
thanks! I’ll check the suggestion out and see how well it works for me. I appreciate the maps!

ParticipantJust finished my first ever full week of commuting. Looks like a grand total of 136 miles for the week and I don’t feel completely dead!

I did this today on my way home. It took a few tries to find the ped/bike trail. I lived in those condos at Colonial Village a decade ago and couldn’t remember exactly where that trail was.
Bonus point for taking this route was seeing the Beagles twice in one day — first at FCCII and then again when they were out for their evening walk along Key.

ParticipantJust a quick shoutout to those interested:
The connection between Chain Bridge and the C&O canal has a tree branch that has drooped down over the normal U-Ramp that connects the two. Its pretty obvious, so it won’t sneak up on anyone, but just tossing out a warning there!September 5, 2013 at 2:16 pm #980348OneEighth
ParticipantWas a mistake.
Took the wrong set of two wheels and sat in traffic and roasted in my leathers without ever hitting speeds that would have justified the gear.
Lesson learned. On a fixie tomorrow for sure.September 5, 2013 at 2:19 pm #980350Dickie

ParticipantThe garage would be a step up from the dog house…
But, seriously, I am a veteran—I went straight to grovel and lived to ride again.September 5, 2013 at 2:55 pm #980368TwoWheelsDC

Lesson learned. On a fixie tomorrow for sure. When I had a motorcycle I rode it all winter and enjoyed it…but once summer hit I was over it. Too damn hot.

GuestMy morning commute was possibly the last, or at least next-to-last, by bike until, oh, April-ish.
Just when I’m starting to get good at them!
(just not quite good enough for dodging potholes + cars in the dark)

Wow, and I thought my forced time off the bike for the next 6 weeks was bad… April?? Unless you’re going to be on a submarine, there has *got* to be some way you could keep biking over the next few months, right?

Could you keep a bike at the office and ride for lunch? Or join CaBi?

GuestOh, I am not going to stop RIDING!!!
I am just not going to be commuting once darkness hits a certain point on the way home, which I sneaked in yesterday by leaving early, but I’m pushing it.

I’ve been thinking about that – it would be a fun game to take bikes from the Hains Point CaBi station and race them around the point. It’s about five miles, you could certainly do it in 30 minutes.
