ParticipantI, on the other hand, am a huge fan of red light cameras. They do change behavior, and I don’t really see a down side. (No, I don’t care about increased incidence of low speed rear-end collisions; I’d rather have a thousand fender benders than one squashed kid–it’s just a hunk of metal getting bent.) Also, as a driver, I find that traffic flows much better when you don’t have “just one more” car going through after the red and getting stuck in the intersection.

ParticipantI don’t understand the big issue about the high fees in D.C. that’s been all over the news recently. Um, if you don’t like the high fee, don’t run a red light or speed!

Crazy talk!

ParticipantAmazed at the brilliant colors this morning, but they will soon be gone after the election and most of the signs go away. The leaves looked nice too.

People do get hurt in rear end collisions – even low speed ones. But overall, I agree that the benefits seem to far outweigh the costs. I don’t particularly like automated enforcement of any law, on general principle grounds, but I am a fan of the general change in behavior.
And I completely agree with you about the ‘one more car’ problem – a good bit of automotive gridlock is caused by the box-blockers.
Now if I can just do something about the brewing motorcycle / bicycle parking dispute in my building, I can be happier:

Judging by the sign on the wall, it doesn’t look like you’re going to win this one. They purposely combined motorcycle and bike parking?

The sign on the wall appears to be paper, likely printed at a motorcycle rider’s desk.
time to play “rock, paper, scissors”.

Looks like there’s a risk of knocking over that ZX-14 if you had to bend over to check out your front tire. As a motorcycle rider, I know I wouldn’t park in the same spot again if my bike got tipped over accidentally……just sayin’.

ParticipantFrom the photo, it looks like the simple solution would be to park the motorcycles perpendicular to the wall on the right of the photo. More motorcycles would fit that way, too.
But then, simple solutions don’t pop into simple minds.October 24, 2012 at 7:05 pm #954175bobco85

But then, simple solutions don’t pop into simple minds.I’ll add that if you were to put down some masking tape, you could “draw” spots where they could position their motorcycles and give yourself a border around the bike rack so they don’t get in the way.

ParticipantGood point. People are comfortable when they color more or less within the lines. Maybe talk to building management?

ParticipantMy morning commute was this…….I was waiting for the X-walk to turn green just before Lynn Street and this knuckle head with a Bike Arlington reflective vest just darts out and crosses. Sorry for being so blunt but with all do respect, you are a knuckle head. Whoever you were. I was going to chase you down and preach but then again, I was thinking, “He’s an adult, he should know better” but oh well, this BA Vest wearing rider has no clue. Yup, I was the one with the red and black helmet waiting. Ahh there. I feel better but you’re still a knuckle head.

ParticipantTo he fair, BA seems to give quite a few of those out. It might not (hopefully) have been a forum user.

I have it to “alert” traffic that they are about to kill me… it works.
