ParticipantI love how “The Enabler” shows up for one random post and describes in full detail how to hack road signs…. watch your back Americancyclo, it’s a trap brother!

Participantbefore hacking into the sign you may want to ditch the bib shorts and bike helmet for a hardhat and overalls. Lycra Joe typing on a road sign may draw some attention.

Don’t forget your BA safety vest.

ParticipantI need The Enabler to post in the thread where I muse on how I am going to afford/convince the wife on a new Van Dessel.

Westbound, if the W&OD light has just turned red, I’ll often bail over to 4MR at the intersection down the steep hill and rejoin the W&OD in Gelncarlyn Park. It only saves a few seconds, but it provides some nice change of scenery every once in a while. be careful here in the colder months though, as ice can build up on the trail underneath Columbia Pike.
I’ll do this too, but not now with the yellow caution tape blocking the access trail entrance at the top.

I would suggest pointing out that your current bike is CURSED.

ParticipantBecause my primary commuter is in the shop receiving much needed new cables, general PM and a light tune up, I rode my ‘weekend’ bike today. Oh My Gosh! The speed! The willingness to climb! The responsive and quick steering. Cycling nirvana!
Were it not for the fact that mounting a rack and panniers would (almost) completely negate the advantages, I could get used to this. But having a big backpack on is a pain. Of course, I could just pre-po more clothing at the office, and buy breakfast and lunch instead of carrying it…
The most emotionally satisfying part was the average speed being 1MPH higher over the course of the ride, while my Avg HR was on the low end of normal. I can’t wait to ride home…!

ParticipantI was passed by a bike on the uphill going east on the WOD just after the belway and before Virginia Lane. The rider certainly didn’t look elite, and he passed me pretty quickly. I tend to go hard up that hill, so I was quite surprised. When he turned right, I noticed the massive rear hub and noticed he had an electric bike! I made a point of catching up to him and passing him on the stretch from Shreve Rd. to the Route 7 bridge.

I’ve been commuting on my road bike the last three days just to take advantage of the great weather. I’ve got the big items already at work and used just a small backpack for a few extras.

ParticipantBesides my missed connection, it was a really nice ride in to work. The weather is absolutely spectacular!!! Such a treat IN AUGUST to barely break a sweat on the ride in to work.

Clearly you’re not working hard enough.

ParticipantEnjoyed the cool weather and took an easy ride in… even stopped to pick up a 3/8″ drive socket extension off the road.
This is the second tool-related find on my commute since starting. The first was a E-11 external torx driver made by snap-on. I traded it for a beer at the local auto parts store when I went to get an oil filter on Saturday, as I have never encountered an external torx drive fastener, even in school for mechanical engineering. It must be pretty specialty.
Out of town guests and DC restaurant week are going to tie up the rest of the week, so I’m happy to get a good commute in while I can!

The Germans seem to love them; you’ll find them in BMW/Merc/Audi/VW
