ParticipantNow that’s a commuter! Are you going to put a basket on it? I was baffled about how your fingers froze at 60ºF but I guess at 60mph there is windchill to consider.

ParticipantHaha. That’s definitely not the normal commuter, but I am worse than a two year old when it comes to new toys. Couldn’t wait a few days to ride it.

ParticipantOk, who turned on the taps just as I wheeled the bike out this morning?

Not half a block from my house and splash. Interestingly I saw loads of runners on the WOD/Custis but almost no cyclists. (I guess some folks checked the weather.) There was some sort of running race going on the Custis — I guess it was a race as they had these homemade numbers on. Some of those ladies looked really displeased to be running in the rain.

Me. I don’t have a waterproof backpack yet, and the thought of getting to work and having all my work clothes soaking wet sounded like no fun.

Clothes in plastic bag, bag in backpack. Problem solved.

You can’t solve a bike problem without buying new gear. What’s the point of even having a bike problem if not to buy more gear?

If you have a regular backpack, and a garbage bag to put inside of it with your clothes, you do have a waterproof backpack.

You get the gear when you get the gear, but until then you improvise. You don’t skip the ride.

That’s very true. I obviously wasn’t thinking clearly. I apologize.

Nope. I just thought I’d replace my brakes and brake levers last night (doing a canti to v-brake conversion on my bike), and it took me WAY longer than I had anticipated, so I stopped around 3 AM, halfway done, and said, “Screw it. I’ll taking metro in the morning. I need at least a few hours sleep.”
So my bike sits at home in a state of half-completeness. I would have loved to ride in today’s rain. My fenders haven’t been properly initiated yet.
I’ll finish the project tonight, come hell or high water, the latter of the two being the more distinct possibility given the downpour I got caught in walking from metro to my office.

Participantovercast and misting… what I believe they call “sunny” in Seattle.
I avoided most of the big droplets, although a few found me and got me wet. No particular extra gear for this morning, except that the full fenders were actually useful. Might have washed off a little of Sunday’s mud and grit from the tow path trail. -
