I know this was answered but I take the service road up to N. Cherry…. good luck.

    Here’s a record of yesterday’s commute anyway…

Thanks for all the suggestions. I tried the Army Navy Drive route from 4MRT and it was fantastic. http://goo.gl/maps/CcF6G

The only part that is not fun is the Braddock/495 interchange. This might be frowned upon but I think I am going to ride the left side of the road on the median next time. Most cars are using the right 3 lanes and taking the 495 on ramps, and having to merge across the 2 right exit lanes is interesting.

I am going to try the Hummer/Annandale -> Cherry -> W&OD route next week when I get back from New York. I will try both taking the Custis/MVT and also dasgeh’s Ft. Meyer cut through. This morning’s route was just about 14 miles, so the W&OD will add 2.5-3 miles to my trip which is not a big deal, unless I am running late.

This was my original plan, but i could not figure out the best way to navigate 7 corners. Any tips on what to do when you hit Rte. 50 on Annandale Rd? I would love to figure this out for weekend recreational riding routes headed west on the W&OD.

If you’re going through 7 Corners, you’re probably better off cutting over on Kerns Rd to Sleepy Hollow.

But from Annandale Rd you can take South St to the frontage Rd along Rt 50. That puts you at the same place where Sleepy Hollow comes out.

I posted in somebody else’s thread an easy way to get from Hummer/Annandale Rd to the W&OD going west:

If I’m heading for the W&OD to go east however, I wouldn’t take any of those routes. It’s much more scenic to cut through the Lake Barcroft area. I don’t know if this helps or not, but this is my “long way” to work (except for the beginning which is slightly different since it leaves from my house :) :

That does look nice (at least the Barcroft part) and just about the same distance as taking Annandale all the way to 50 and Cherry St, though with more turns.

I drove in today, again. My mileage is negligible for the year due to the pain. I had my RFA 2 weeks ago, and the pain has significantly subsided now, I just need to motivate myself to get back in the saddle again. I figure posting here might put some accountability pressure on myself :)

Vacation + rough week re-adjusting + heat kept me from commuting since 6/28. Oh, wow, that was almost a month ago!

Rode in today on the fixed side. A little clanky and loud with the worn cog, but man was it fun.
I fixed the problem with shower access, so now I can rinse off instead of just towel dry – it makes a difference. I don’t feel crusty.

:D I am so terrible at recognizing people on the trail… If I make up a bunch of labels can I just stick them to y’all when I see you out and about?

Make me a set too please. In some ways summer is making it hard for me to get in rides. Seems there is all kinds of other stuff to be doing. if not for the much enjoyed ride in and out of work everyday I would be missing many days rides.

Not sure how much time it might add but there is the pedestrian bridge just north of Braddock. Enter the Wakefield park entrance, take the service road past the Audrey Moore rec center and its just up the gravel road about 1/4 mile, that’s where I cross 495.

I find that I get buzzed by far fewer cars crossing on LRT than riding on Americana Drive. And the people who don’t buzz me on Americana pass on the other side of the road when they can’t see what’s coming up the other side of the hill. And then there’s the dooring issue from all the parked cars and trucks.
