Also, I spell it “crawfish” but pronounce it “krae-fish” (like the “w” is silent), but there are multiple ways of saying/spelling it as shown:
So what you’re saying, basically, is that you’re a Yankee.

We need a name for this stuff.

When you catch a mess of them, give me a call. It is a Louisiana delicacy and I’ll show you how to suck the head (sucking the head is a dining approach many have yet to embrace) as you dine on those mudbugs. Years ago we caught them while diving in Lake Tahoe.
Because they’re insects, I don’t think you’re supposed to eat them unless they come from a clean water source (they store all the toxins they eat over their lifetime). I don’t think FMR counts. Sorry.

Isn’t that what this is for?

I just don’t understand how it’s possible. My umbrellas seem to have massive trouble not going inside out while standing. Add in the wind associated with riding and I would just be carrying a lance within two minutes.
She wasn’t going but 8 or 10 mph and had the umbrella handily tilted forward to deflect the wind.

Nope, not insects. Same family as lobsters (genus = tastywithbutter). If a clean water source was a requirement, I’d expect the production from Louisiana might drop a bit! Would agree about most of the tidal Potomac.

This is true – I’ve done this many times and it’s all about the angle. I’m a bit mystified by the choice of bike though. I would never bother riding with an umbrella on my hybrid with no fenders since whatever water I saved from landing on my head would be splattered on my back. Riding with an umbrella is a good match for a Dutch-style bike

Participant…rocked. A nice day, few cars, hit all the lights down Custis and made my 7 mile trip in 25 mins flat. Oh and I didn’t feel like I was going to DIE at the Lynn/Lee intersection of death (due to the aforementioned lack of cars).

ParticipantYou know it’s funny how things go. My crossing over Lynn/Lee this morning (~8:30 really late for me) was actually kind of bad because of the lack of cars. The light was with me and no cars were there to turn until right when I hit the intersection when a car suddenly decided to turn from the far left lane of Lee and then another car came tearing up the far right lane. It was a bit of a bad moment though both cars ended seeing me and slammed on their brakes. The low traffic meant that the cars that did turn were at a much higher rate of speed than normal. It really is a no win intersection.

ParticipantBest commute ever. I was accompanied by the best crew, and I got to go down through the Cemetery to boot.

ParticipantWOOOO COMMUTIN!
I had to take an IT cert test in Alexandria this morning before going to work in DC, so naturally I decided to ride in to DC for Coffee Club (which I timed PERFECTLY to arrive after the first group had left and before the second group got there
) and then back to Alexandria for the test, then back to DC.
There are all sorts of adorable l’il sailboats on the river! And ducks! And nice people! Awww!
There are all sorts of tourists on rental bikes (not CaBi) blocking up the sidewalks between the Tidal Basin and the Penn Ave cycletrack! Rarrrrr!

I’m not sure she was really any drier than I was, but she was probably much cleaner. My wipes got a workout cleaning the grit off my legs. Maybe it’s time to replace that rear fender I tossed earlier this summer.

That’s a friend of mine! She’s a mutual funds lawyer and hasn’t missed a day’s bike commute in over a year. She’s usually on a stylin’ Pashley I believe.

ParticipantThis morning’s excitement brought to me by the US Capitol Police. No, nothing bad. I happened upon a squad of them riding over memorial bridge, in formation. They were moving slightly faster than I was, so they passed me, most courteously, on the bridge. I hung with them to the Lincoln memorial, where we rode opposite sides of the reflecting pool. Met them again on Jefferson St. and I lost them on the Air and Space sprint (I really like to make the light at 4th st.)
I have a sneaky suspicion that it may have been a training exercise, because they didn’t even seem to blink when a fellow rider blew through the light at 7th st.
