Do you ride brakeless?
Do you have crazy amounts of extra energy that can only be discharged through epic shreds?
Is your bike just too light? (I can fix that for you with a frame swap.)All of those describe dcv.

I never realized how hard it is to ride without skid stops until I tried this morning. I do have an emergency brake on this bike, but don’t usually use it.

ParticipantI got to see the Canada Day celebration at the Canadian Embassy this morning! Never would have seen it if I’d been stuck in the underground tunnels. O, Canada!

ParticipantI watched the clouds, watched some more, then took off just in time for it to drizzle, rain, and pour. Now I get to spend the work day in soggy shorts, and I can’t wait to put on my sopping wet shoes for the ride home!
I actually enjoy these warm rain rides, but drying out is a pain (and it’s murder on my bike parts).

Participantgot sick over the weekend, just in time for vacation too.
Driving in sucks, I have a sunroof that has recently decided to start leaking – my car smells like mildew.
Will try to pick up commuting when I get back mid-July.July 1, 2013 at 7:28 pm #974400ShawnoftheDread

Stuff your shoes with newspaper when you get to work, and change the newspaper at lunchtime. My shoes are always dry by the time I leave.

Oh duh, THAT’s what that was! I wandered by in a pre-coffee haze wondering why there were lots of people in white hats singing stuff.

I can never find newspaper anymore…. and magazines don’t work quite as well!
I can prop them against the back of my computer case under my desk and the fan blows warm air through them. Sorta like a reverse AirWicks for my cube…

I’m guessing you don’t work downtown, with a plethora of free ‘Express’ and ‘Examiners’ on most every street corner?

This sounds like one of those things some might do to torment the co-worker nobody likes. Of course, a pair of cycling shoes isn’t exactly subtle when it is sitting next to the computer. Perhaps you should work a deal to let them dry in the server room?
This morning was great — I managed to avoid getting rained on, though I think I sensed a few drops. Maybe my luck will hold for the ride home, too.
Other than the few raindrops and some threatening skies and wind, my only other issues were electronic — I forgot to turn on bluetooth so my HR monitor couldn’t connect and my camera didn’t want to record this morning’s ride (probably because it knows how boring it is!) #FirstWorldProblems

Hah. I’d forgotten about those, it’s been so long since I rode the Metro – I can’t believe it has 80% approval ratings! Everything has approval ratings these days. I do work close to one, it’d add maybe a quarter mile rt to go pick up newspapers, but there aren’t any in the office.
I’ve avoided getting soaked on the way in, so far, so haven’t really had this problem (yet), but neighbors are scarce, and the server room is locked.

ParticipantTwo things from yesterday today…
1. Yesterday, Custis trail..anyone else see the maintenance truck stuck in the ditch along the trail? Guy was trying to break it out with the lawnmower, sucked for him but gave me a chuckle
2. Today, wet.. why do I ever bother with rain gear during the Virginia summer?
Be safe.

ParticipantI took the Metro today. Not because I didn’t want to ride in the rain – I kind of like riding in the rain when it’s warm. No, I took the Metro because we’re going on vacation this afternoon and I’m bringing my bike and I didn’t want to pack wet bike stuff in the car.
Luckily, the kids are already on vacation with my mother-in-law, so getting ready in the morning takes 1/10th as long, and I got on Metro an hour earlier than I would have otherwise. I could have gotten a seat if I’d wanted one.

ParticipantA grand commute this morning!
Began with a guy on the Four Mile Run trail jogging with the a small chihuahua on a leash. That seems to be one type of dog that you don’t take running.
The motorists on Pennsylvania were reasonably well behaved this morning (absent the idiot who had to do a three point U turn just north of PA on 7th).
Approaching elephant plaza I was able to enjoy a quartet of brass buskers. If I’d been in the aluminum tube or locked in my car I wouldn’t have heard them. They were really good!
And I only got sprinkled on.

The ride in was perfect today. Dark clouds and rain drops scare a lot of riders away, and for whatever reason having less riders out there often times makes my morning commutes a bit more enjoyable. Seemed that mv traffic was pretty light this morning as well.

ParticipantThis morning’s “scattered showers” meant a steady downpour from Annandale to Falls Church to DC. It was fun!
