ParticipantI enjoyed the new route that I found on BTWD, which took me either off the major roads or onto the sidewalks, so I did it again this morning.
A bit muggy but still not bad temperature wise. Traffic was a little heavier today than last Friday, so it wasn’t quite as fun. Saw an accident that had just happened on Central Ave near Cap Hgts Metro, low-speed T-bone, and the response got there just after I passed them. Also, last Friday I forgot my belt for my work clothes… today I forgot my shoes, so I’m walking around in my very ratty old mtb (commuting) shoes, and business casual everything else. Got to stash some at work if I’m going to get back into commuting regularly.
While not as exhilarating as my first commute (crisp, cool air and sunshine, vs. overcast and humid) this one also felt good. Hopefully more next week, the rest of this week is going to get sucked up prepping / getting out of town for Mem Day Weekend.

This is crucial. Also, find a good dry cleaner nearby.

It helps to pack your clothes the night before so you don’t forget anything. I always mimic getting dressed in my head to be sure I don’t forget an essential. I also keep spare underwear and shoes at my desk.
Yes, this is rather sucky weather in my opinion; esp for May. Fortunately the humidity is supposed to leave us tomorrow.

ParticipantPretty sweet editing job. Are you using the GoPro white? What did you edit this in?

ParticipantFuzzy, your commute takes you really close to Friday Coffee Club at M.E. Swings on G St. (across from Old Exec Office Bldg). Very friendly group of people if you ever ever want to stop by there.

Nice video! About 99% of the time I’m on the 15th Street cycletrack, I’m headed south (coming off of L), so it’s interesting to see a northbound route along it. The music is not bad. It makes me think that you head to work with a mellow vibe amongst the hussle and bustle of the city around you, a good sign that you are keeping your sanity in traffic

Yeah, I think I’m pretty badass now.
I’d probably be insufferable if I could still move my legs.

Around 1:25 is where I bike to every morning from Alexandria/Beacon Hill. One thing I did notice was that you stopped at the WH gate by H St. Did you have really big panniers on your bike? Otherwise you can fit through those gates with relative ease. I think I sometimes piss off other riders as I fly through them.

ParticipantPlayed hookey and skipped the commute (but not the ride) today. It was hot!

ParticipantActually this was my evening commute.
Massive headache. Got on my bike at work. Did something stupid. Fell off my bike at work.
Well okay.
Road home. Getting my head screwed on a little straighter. And my bike creaked the whole way home. Hum. That’s a new sound.
Get off my bike at home. Look at it. Pry at it. Pound on it. OH THERE IT IS!!!! A hair line fracture in the seat post. I must of torqued the seat when I fell off and it is a well used seat. And I am not exactly light. That doesnt…. um…. seem safe.
During lunch hit the bike stores.
Me: I need to replace my seat post. I think I cracked it.
Store one: Yip. You did. (Takes out a measurement thing) You need a 27.2 / 400. Here is a 350.
Me: It’s too short.
Store one: Yip. You ride at your own risk.
Me: Um… no.
Store one: Okay, well, the measurements are 27.2 / 400. And (tells me some more useful information on another topic).Store two: Has it. But…. um…. ewe…. cheap crap.
Store three: Doesnt have it. But I can buy a new bike. I am riding the wrong bike after all.
Store Four: Doesnt have it but can order it. It will be in in a week. (um, Amazon is faster).
Store Five: Has a 27.2 / 400 in stock with a set back. Top of the line. Real expensive. With a Canondale bad boy, you need a set back. Here, pay us lots of money (probably could of bought it online for 20% cheaper).
Geeze. Sigh.
For extra credit, guess which store is which. All in Arlington area.

ParticipantI’m guessing that three is Big Wheels (but it could be one). Four I’m guessing Pappillon. Five is Freshbikes. I’m not sure I have a guess for two.

FWIW, they do give 10% off to WABA members…

ParticipantI’m pretty new to bike commuting (Alexandria <--> NoMa), but have heard enough about adding the Hains Point loop that I decided to do it this morning. What a treat. Beautiful day, nice road, pretty scenery. And inspiring to be passed by a group of 4 riders in a mini-peloton that sounded like a Prius when it went by. I can’t wait to get back out there.
