Don’t be such a negative nancy! Your morning theme song brought to you by John Hiatt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7aYxMuLb3h8.

… On a related note – Stay tuned to the classifieds page for a super cheap, blinged out Fugi hybrid. It might make good wall art for those of you who are in to that sort of thing? Or you could take it to the scrap metal place and get, like, $3 for it. I’m keeping the extra tubes for my scrapbook.
No, no, no, a thousand times NO! YOU MUST KEEP the Fuji – always have a spare, plus it will be your wet weather bike!

But if I get rid of it, I can get a NEW road bike..! We have a 4 bike limit in our house. And we need to figure out how to hang them so our shed has more space for the bike trailer, bike work station, etc…

Was tempted not to bike anymore in the NBC after this score…
Luckily I had a nice ride today climbing up 41st and the Hills
of Military Road and 31st Street. Now i’m in a much happier place.

Two people and only four bikes? What are you thinking! :p

I don’t remember ever agreeing to this. I just agreed that 3 is my current limit.

ParticipantI propose we have dasgeh expand her arbitration role to this family issue.
If we were to apply the n+1 rule, everybody could have another bike. Four seems like an arbitrary (and even) number, so non fung shui.

I welcome this! 4 came out of my needing only 1 and Marc’s n = 2. Therefore, we have enough as a couple. Given this math, if 4 is enough as a couple and I get a new bike, we have to get rid of one (the Fugi). We will then still have enough. 4. Only I will now have 2 (cannondale + new bike) which means Marc’s n will have to decrease to 1. Sorry, honey. You did this to yourself.

ParticipantYou’re looking at this the wrong way. The proper number of bikes here is S-1, where S is the number that would result in separation from your spouse. Since of course spouses are equal, you each must have the same number of bikes. Obviously N+1 < S, since you can hardly divorce your spouse for wanting the same number of bikes as you want. Therefore it is clear that N will go to infinity. QED. You need a bigger house.

I hate math. I propose a new equation. The proper number of bikes in our marriage is equal to H – 1, where H is the number of bikes crammed into our shed that would cause a honeybadger attack. H = 5.

We have 4 people in our family, and have on order bike #11. So 3 bikes per person. And clearly we need to buy one more bike (unless you count the WeeHoo, which is a trail-a-bike).
Of course, 2 of our 4 are under the age of 3 (though one of the 11 is for the 2.5 yo), so I may not be the best person to ask.

I majored in math and don’t have a shed.

I’m a pretty mediocre uncle, being that I’m mostly absent from my nephews’/niece’s lives (LOVE the kiddos, just don’t get back home too much). But all that will change in the next few years when much to my nephew and his parents’ surprise, he’ll be getting his first drop bar road bike from Uncle Steve! He’s six now, I figure if he doesn’t take his training seriously soon, then he’ll never ride Le Tour.

Except the Cannondale has become community property, removing it from the equation…thus, for the purposes of calculating N, my N=2 and your N=1. Thus, one additional bike is allowed.

ParticipantHad a terrible night. One of those middle aged nights where you spend the dark hours worrying about things that go bump in the night (like teenagers). Woke up edgy. Took forever to get my gear on and get in the saddle. Rode.
Got to work. Took my lock out and was beginning to lock up when I stopped and laughed. I realized I was singing a song to myself. I realized that my mood had completely changed. I had gone from worrying about shadows to looking forward to what the day would bring.
