Yep. I’ve seen eagles at Hains Point several times.

A motorcycle-equipped Arlington county policeman was closely monitoring for traffic infractions on Lee Highway, where Fairfax Drive and the W&OD trail cross it. He was perched a short block away, at the corner of Lee and Westmoreland/19th.
Presumably to catch motorists turning right onto Lee Hwy from FX Drive on red without yielding to crosswalk traffic. He looked as if he meant business…!

Observed between the ramp to/from the 14th St Bridge path and the MVT. As Bentbike suggests, the roadway is clearly unsafe for motorists and their cars so we should consider banning them, for their safety.

I tried a multi-modal commute this morning. Rode down to Old Town and took the water taxi to the Wharf. Pretty painless. http://Www.potomacriverboatco.com/water-taxi

Buy tickets on line and show up in Old Town. $10 for the masses (round trip), less for Alex residents. Schedule on website. My boat had 4 bike racks. Unclear where 5th bike would go but crew seemed cool so I’d think they had a plan.

When I go to the site, it shows $18 round trip.

Your reputation is known, even to the water taxi people. For the record, I’m cool with them charging a Steve O surcharge.

So cool they have bike racks. I did a ferry ride from Jersey City to Manhattan last year and you just sort of lean your bike against the gunnels, outside. I didn’t realize they weren’t going to raise the stern end, so a regular clued me in that I’d better move my bike closer to the cabin or it might go overboard; maybe that was the PANYNJ bike plan.

My morning commute is at the same time as everyone’s, or at least most of everyone’s, evening commute thanks to working nights.

First time commuting in a few weeks after getting a new bike built up. Seriously the most comfortable bike I’ve ever ridden. I got passed by an electric scooter and an e-bike on the W&OD. The e-bike had a bell and let me know he was passing. The scooter, not so much.

There was a guy who got real salty with another cyclist and I on the bridge over West Broad on the W&OD. He and another person were walking side by side on the bridge and another cyclist and I chimed our bells to let him know we wanted to pass. There were a few other cyclists before us and I heard other bells go off as I was approaching the bridge. The guy did move over but was yelling all sorts of nonsense and his walking buddy yelled something about pedestrians having the right of way, which is correct as long as you aren’t blocking the trail which they were. Neither of us engaged the guy. For the record, we were both going at slightly above a walking pace when we passed him.

The forecast got it wrong, and now I wish I hadn’t procrastinated with my Fall fender reinstall.

DC Police reacted to last night’s post by Dr Gridlock warning of the Shut Down DC climate protest disrupt this Monday morning, there were 4 bicycle police on the East side path of Key Bridge this morning, didn’t look over to see if they were on the other side as well. Were there police on the other Potomac bridge side paths?

Police vehicles (no bikes) were lined up on the I-395 shoulder on the DC side of the 14th street bridge at 7:10.

I saw 8-10 police cars on the DC side of the TR Bridge (westbound direction, in the median, where the machine to move the concrete divider sits). Most were unmarked, but had lights on, but the few that were marked were all VA State Troopers…

Mass disruption protest + excellent PR – flex commuters(stayed home + rode metro + rode bikes) = easiest commute ever.

I didn’t see a single protest. I saw more protesters in front of my house in Arlington Forest. One of the protest boats and its crew pulled up in front of my house around 7:30 am. The “crew” didn’t look very nautical and that oddity caught my attention. I thought maybe it was some school’s sailing team forced to take care of their own stuff.

Every time I think G Street east of the White House can’t get any worse, I’m proven wrong.

Tried out the new pedestrian/bike bridge by the Kennedy Center. It was great, a useful connection between the waterfront path and the Roosevelt Bridge path and a safe crossing of Rock Creek Pkwy.
