Participantso sorry to hear this Carol. Glad the frame is under warranty and hope you get that fixed soon.
Also, I’m having that vitreous thing -but just one black spot . Apparently, it happens with age to most (?) people to one extent or another. No one told me! Hoping yours resolves soon!

Yeah, I’ve reached that stage in life when no matter what the problem is, there is an excellent chance I’ll be told it’s because of my age. But in this case, it manifested itself by my thinking I had a horrible roach infestation, with those little black dots scurrying everywhere. When I tried to squash one of the “roaches,” I discovered it wasn’t there. I went to the ER to rule out either a) retinal detachment, or b) psychotic break. I was quite relieved to discover it was neither.

ParticipantThough it was brisk this morning, I was still reminded of the old cycling commuter adage, “Any day you remember your underwear is a good day.”

If you have a locker, keep a spare there; then they’re all good days.

I keep two pairs of spares…that’s all I’m going to say about that.

No locker required. All you need is a desk, or a drawer. At least that’s what a friend tells me.

I’d recommend a pair of drawers rather than just one.

ParticipantAs I was accelerating down K Street to go under Washington Circle from the west, I was struck on the left arm by an object from above. The only thing I can think of is that someone threw something at me from on top of the bridge. I was struck about where the “X” is on this map:
I was not hurt, thankfully. I was in no position to stop and investigate, either the object or whether it was in fact thrown at me or was just something that had fallen from above. It seemed about the size of a baseball (but not round–more like a piece of asphalt maybe?), although it all happened pretty fast. I’m not sure what to make of this.

Strewth Steve, glad you were not hurt, would you like to request from HSEMA a copy of DDOT surveillance footage from camera # CCTV-132 at 24th St and Washington Circle using a foia? The website mentions it gets deleted after 10 days. Trouble is it appears to cover a point before you were struck so unsure how useful it might be.

I had that thought, but it hit me just before I went under, so the object was not traveling straight down. Unless it was a meteorite.

The fireballs would have been your evening commute:
Too bad because that would have been a hail-of-a story.

Could it have been a chunk of rock salt or asphalt that got kicked over the ledge by a passing car/bus/truck/etc.?

It all happened pretty fast, but there’s actually a small plaza area above at that point, making that improbable. I wish I could have stopped to go look at the thing, but, you know, death.
Maybe I’ll keep an eye out tomorrow to see if there is something, about that size, kicked over to the gutter.December 12, 2018 at 1:25 pm #1092164huskerdont
ParticipantAnd vary your route and timing. They’re onto you now.
Not really kidding. I’ve had enough altercations over the years that I try to be a little unpredictable lest someone lies in wait for me, for instance that runner who tried to assault me a few years back, or the runner coming from the other direction who came into my lane and did a feigned elbow strike just this last summer. Lots of cray cray out there.
