Rolled out with the 45NRTH studs on this morning. The studs weren’t really necessary this morning, but the tires are actually better in snow than my gravel tires because they’re knobbier. Also, the CCT and other trails are on course to be an icy mess this evening. 23 degrees also felt very warm, which kinda weirded me out.

Is it just me or is everyone else’s calendars (paper and electronic) and clocks broken? Those things all told me it was January 12 and I was heading to work at my normal time, but I got outside and it seemed like I was leaving for work an hour early in March. Thinking back, these devices seemed to have started messing up prior to yesterday’s commute home.

The fog at the Roosevelt Island lot was fantastic!

The fog was really cool. I plunged into Jones point park with my helmet light on high and couldn’t see a damn thing!

Some lanky dude photobombed my pic of the morning fog on the river.

First, I am excited that my count on the Rosslyn counter was in the single digits two days in a row. I do not expect that to keep up. Second, I am surprised at both yesterday’s number and today’s number. I know today is a holiday, so far fewer commuters, in fact, I did not see another bicycle my whole commute. So at about 7:30am, I was number 8 on the monolith. What surprises me is that yesterday, at about 10am, it was warmer, and I saw other cyclists before and after Rosslyn, I was number 5.

It was a cold commute, but a lovely sunrise and so little traffic. I would have preferred about 10deg warmer, but that is okay.

Same here!!! (Although, I have been wearing them with wool socks the past few warmish rainy days.)

Me: Northbound MVT approaching turn onto the 14th St bridge. Looked behind and saw no one, slowed down gradually, gave a long full-arm left turn signal, and made a gradual wide turn leaving plenty of room for someone coming downhill in the opposite lane.

You: Appeared out of nowhere and screeched your brakes behind me, as though I’d done something unpredictable and interrupted your morning hammerfest.

Dude, that was audacious and amateur. Just because you’re fast doesn’t mean you’re not an idiot.

I had a similar incident on the northbound MVT a few weeks ago. Was going to pass a pedestrian at around 17mph, saw the roadie behind me, put my hand out to let him know I was passing, and the roadie accelerates and passes both of us as we are all three together. I told him that wasn’t cool and then he slowed down and told me, “People like you think you own the trail.” Then he explained to me how much faster he was than me and challenged me to a race to prove it. I declined.

I just finished my video on my morning bike commute here in Seattle! After getting a job in November and learning that they had a bike cage in the building, I was able to eventually figure out a nice route for biking the 13.5 miles from my apartment in Tukwila to my building in downtown Seattle. Haha, this video shows the route I use now, and I have not gotten a single flat while taking this route.

I had wanted to make a video of my commute, but I couldn’t figure out how best to show it until I started reviewing the footage I had collected over commutes during November, December, and January. There was such variety in the sky, daylight, weather, and more that it would be cool to show the changes between each on the same stretches.

This is the morning bike commute I make every Monday/Wednesday/Friday (I take the light rail on Tuesday/Thursday). Enjoy!

How cool! I am just starting to mess around with my own videos, beyond just speeding them up. In terms of bicycle friendliness, what do you think of that Washington versus this one? I am headed out there in June for vacation and wanted to scout things out.

I almost knocked someone off this morning who did something similar. Mondays…
