I took the long way in today and was passing National Airport as the sun was coming up. A metro train rumbled by overhead and I thought of all the people stuck in that box in the sky, and then I thought, “Oh! I hope Kel isn’t stuck in there!”
good morning for miles.Awwww
Nope, Kel is at home perishing of the Metro Plague today. My bike is sad and neglected.

ParticipantSince I was wearing a backpack today, I wrapped my BA safety vest around the backpack instead of wearing it. About halfway up the Custis I noticed I no longer had a safety vest. I’d like to think speed was a contributing factor.

What time was that? I think you ride earlier than me. I was on the late side today riding too the Custis (slowly on the Ogre) between 8 am and 8:30ish. Didn’t see a Bike Arlington vest laying around anywhere. Return trip won’t be on the Custis because of HAPPY HOUR! If I happen to see one tomorrow I’ll grab it for you.

Thanks. It was earlier than that, but it probably happened on the road before your route starts.

Well, we were the overall fastest team in #BAFS, so it makes sense…

ParticipantHa, vest was at home caught in the door. That’s what I get for thinking I can leave the house without coffee.

That’s so un-ELITE, it’s ELITE.

ParticipantAhhh…the week-long reprieve that is spring break! No bike lane blockages by the schools, plenty of bike parking at the office, and half my co-workers are on leave.

They were all on 14th St NW. Some days it’s like The Matrix, where person you pass is taken over by an evil artificial intelligence determined to destroy you.

ParticipantFinally warm enough for my wife to be willing to ride with me. Took a little detour this morning:

ParticipantTook me around Hains Point to admire the Cherry Blossoms. Hains Point before 9am is glorious this time of year!

ParticipantI also took a longer route to work than usual, crossing over the 14th St Bridge, looping around East Potomac Park, back on East Basin and Ohio Drives, then getting the Roosevelt Bridge back over to Rosslyn. While there are cherry blossoms, I think the next two days of really warm weather will bring them to their true peak. And speaking of the Roosevelt Bridge, I was doing the contra flow to the rest of the traffic, had to deal with at least ten cyclists heading towards DC. No wonder I didn’t notice dismalscientist on Trollheim. And those wooden planks are a lot rougher on high pressure road tires!

ParticipantDue to the complications of having guests in town, I didn’t ride in this morning
I did send the adult guests down to Hains Point for their way-too-early run. Last night, they were balking about driving to a run. They were very appreciative this morning.
