sucked :( I drove today, despite knowing the weather would be nice. I ate at the “Original Pancake House” in Bethesda yesterday, and by afternoon was feeling pretty nauseous. I’m not sure it was the food, nor do I really have any idea what the issue was really. Still feeling a little “blech” today, and woke up way too late to ride.

    Just another manic Monday.

That was not the monsoon that I was promised.

No kidding, I took Metro and regretted it because of the lack of steady rain. It took about the same amount time it takes to ride and shower too :(

The flash flood warning in Fairfax Co. caused me to chicken out from cyclo commuting. When I first moved into my neighborhood, Huntington Ave. used to flood more dramatically after rainfall like we had starting last night. Drainage has gotten a lot better over recent years, but I’m still harbor some distrust for that street. Unfortunately, there’s no way around it for me when I cycle.

Steady rain is what you want, cause it’s fun. A day like today is easy-peasy. Sandals, shorts, jersey. That’s it. Hardly anything to get wet and you get to play in the rain: wheeee!
Pannier or backpack with good rain cover.
I throw a dry pair of gloves in my bag for the ride home, but the other stuff dries out, because it’s made of that high-techy, wicking stuff.

I was severely bummed that it was barely sprinkling on my ride. I was totally hoping for puddles and torrents and stuff. :(

I decided to telework today to spare you from the deluge, for I suspect I may be a rain god.

    You’re welcome.

Some thunder and lightning between 6 and 7 am and a fair sprinkle too but more a monswoon perhaps.

Yeah, it was lightning when I got up at 6 so I drove in. Regretted it coming home especially, though nice to have the opportunity to listen to latest Cycling Tips podcast.

I left at 6:45 this morning and had about a 5 minute period where the wind was blowing the rain into my face that felt like someone throwing tiny little rocks at me. Turned into a mostly drizzle after that petered out. I need to get some sandals or some of those fancy waterproof socks for days like these. My shoes were pretty soaked.

I picked up a cheap pair of Nashbar cycling sandals a couple of years back, and yeah, they’re pretty much perfect for warm wet days. The only disadvantage is the leaf litter and street gunk that would normally get on your shoes and socks gets on your feet,* but if you’re showering at werk, that’s not a problem.

*Some will recommend wearing socks with sandals. Do not listen to these people.

Mostly pleasant ride in today, save for one exception.

While riding on the W&OD this morning, I was enjoying that everything was cool, overcast, and quiet like the world itself was taking a break until I felt support for my left cheek on my seat suddenly drop off. I stopped to check the situation, and for the second time this year, I had broken one of the 2 supports on the saddle itself. I was relieved it wasn’t something more serious and continued on with enjoying my ride while making a mental note to stop at the bike shop this afternoon.

No need for a bike shop. Your saddle issue will no longer matter with a slight adjustment in your riding style. :)

There is nothing wrong with going full German tourist in the morning and wear socks and go sans socks in the evening when it is warmer.

Ya know, since you constantly complain about how heavy your bike is, you could easily save some weight by leaving your seat and post at home.

Is NOT!. I ride a travelling lounge chair.

Since you use your seat so rarely, you should buy the lightest one you can find since comfort won’t be an issue.
