Yeah, you’re right. I felt bad that 3 people had their day (at least) ruined because I was riding my bike
I would change that to feeling bad for two people. If I’m interpreting this correctly:
You: Awesome person riding bike on beautiful morning and being attentive to your surroundings
Driver 1: Attentive, kind driver, stopping for awesome person
Driver 2: Attentive driver braking in order to not plow into attentive, kind driver’s car
Driver 3: MoronI would share your sympathy for Drivers 1 & 2, whose days were ruined, but not so much for Driver 3.

This is a belated post for yesterday’s morning commute.
I rode to work (west on the W&OD) later than normal after having done the MacAurthur lollipop in the morning. As I was approaching Hunter Mill intersection, but was still a fair ways away (20-30 yards?) a car began stopping to let me cross. That’s nice. Only the SUV two cars back didn’t stop at all and plowed into the car in front of them and then hit the original car who had stopped at the intersection. So a three-car accident before I’d even arrived at the intersection. My work here is done.
I’ve definitely witnessed some screeching brakes from inattentive drivers, but this is the first time I’ve indirectly caused an accident. (The cars were traveling pretty slowly so no one appeared hurt; there was damage, bumper damage. I hung out for a bit and gave them my contact info. I didn’t wait for the police, since I’m not sure they would have cared to talk to me. Plus due to some confusion, the participants in this accident hadn’t even called the police after 10 minutes.)
WTF, people!? Pay attention to the cars in front of you, especially when you’re approaching a crossing !!!
This is why I’m always nervous about stopping for someone waiting at a crosswalk if there are cars close behind me. I know I should stop but if I don’t trust the driver(s) behind me….. It’s also why the GW crossings near Memorial Bridge are such an incomprehensibly bad idea.
Glad you weren’t squished in the accordion!

I am glad someone else enjoyed it too! It is nice not to have so many joggers out although it could get a little wet/T-stormy on my way home.

I concur. I find riding in the rain quite exhilarating and refreshing. Of course other than soggy socks and wet shoes, the commute is serene.

ParticipantEspecially after my ride on the canal Sunday, I figured I would need to wash my biking shoes. Not the case now. They look clean and bright now!

ParticipantLet’s all hurry to the stop sign to not stop at it. Road conditions be damned!

Anyone know if Falls Church PD would do anything with this? It was on E. Columbia and N. Van Buren st.

I had one like that at the library in Falls Church this morning. It’s a three-way stop, I pull up at the middle stop sign, then the Escalade that sees that there is a bike about to make a turn in front of it decides to speed up and run the stop sign on the left, rather than getting behind a bike. This, despite the fact that I was on the right and had the right of way, not to mention that I had already started to enter the intersection. Did I mention the driver was texting at the same time? I could see the phone in her hand as she looked right at me gesticulating wildly at her from within the intersection. Maybe I should put my son’s GoPro on my bike, just for moments like this. Not that it would do any good.

ParticipantToday was a Metro day. Riding along the W&OD to the station, I was envious of the folks who were clearly headed all the way to work on two wheels.

Participant#1 on the Rosslyn bikeometer this morning–a first for me (unless you count the time it wasn’t working in the snow and was stuck on 1, which you don’t). Thank you, thank you, I couldn’t have done it without everyone else staying home. Seriously, I didn’t see a single bike until the Secret Service guys by the White House.
