After having mine fall apart like that in the street several times, I stopped buying those lights. There are much better lights out there anyway.
Yeah I’ve had them fall apart on me too… a dab of elmer’s on the tabs keeps them together, but still able to be separated to put in new batteries… for $5 and free shipping for the back half, this will make a good spare (or primary, and a better-shape one will become the spare, for when this happens to me). I’ve already got the mounts on all my bikes, and they’re good middle-of-the-road blinkies when they aren’t falling in half.

ParticipantI was running about 7 min late today and my morning commute was a whole different universe. No hozn or vicegrip or bentbike, the tall man with the walking stick had already reached Banneker Park (he’s my favorite), the nice couple I pass from behind who always return my “Good Morning!” had already turned around and were coming the other way, the cranky lady with the golden retriever who NEVER says good morning back was already in Bon Air, my friend Gudu had already finished his run so I didn’t get a low five with him, etc.
It was all just wrong.

ParticipantHa! I am in California, so you probably wouldn’t have seen me even if you were on time
That guy’s name is George, I believe. Kevin (GuyCininental) introduced himself to him one morning.
I do love the routine and shared schedules of commuting by bike.

ParticipantTook Chain Bridge for probably the last time until next summer when it’ll be light again early. Thought I might be able to hit 40 mph down the hill on Glebe, but lost my nerve in the darkness (sticks? rocks? unnameable fears?) and touched the brakes. Bummed, but I never really was an especially brave descender so why change now.

My recent PR was 41.6 mph on Macarthur between Falls Rd and Old Angler’s.

ParticipantPretty impressive Strava route there. I’m not sure of my PR b/c no Strava, but I remember some 40s in the mountains. Push 50 and I’d start to worry about that little 23 mm under the bike. I wouldn’t have made a good professional, and luckily now I’m too old to worry about it. Somewhere in the 40s it quickly changes from “Wheeeee!” to “I’m not sure I’m in Kansas anymore.”

ParticipantA steady stream of cyclists heading down stream on the south bank Mainradweg this morning. I was riding upstream to Hanau.

ParticipantMy commute this morning was by car. (UGH.) After a late night last night and a frustrating morning due to a sick pup, I just needed to rest my body.
But when I got to my office, I was oh so very thankful that I skipped the ride in. The A/C is not working. That would have been miserable to come in from such a humid ride to a hot humid office.
So thank you bike karma.

ParticipantThe weather this morning will do in a pinch. Yes, I believe it will.

ParticipantMe: (Having eaten a delicious bacon cheddar scone at Hump Day Coffee Club and biked to work)

ParticipantHappy Friday everyone! I’m happy to report that I rode my vintage road bike today, after two years of sitting and getting moved around my garage, and it was just great! Does anyone know the bearded guy in the Mavic shirt who was sitting outside Bicycle Space this morning? He thought it was pretty cool, said he had a 1980’s Bicycling road review of the Soma Competition.
I’m torn – I rarely / never ride it, and it’s too small (57 or so) but it’s so cool and I’ve got a good story of pulling it out of a dumpster that I’m having a hard time even considering letting it go. It’s not good as a loaner with its geometry and friction shifters.

Maybe throw a pic on pics of your bike someday. I’d love to see it, and I’m sure others would too.

Participant“Unsurprisingly, traffic is pretty heavy for this morning’s rush hour.”
Funny, didn’t really seem so….while biking to work….. :p

Participant…involved dropping off my daughter at Kindergarten
. I could have done without the drivers who were total d*ckheads (the one who pulled to my left at a stop sign to turn right, and the one who kept trying to pass me on Key Blvd only to be facing down on-coming cars, then to get stopped by a school bus, because it’s Key Blvd at 8:30am) and the flat tire.

ParticipantMissed out on seeing everyone this morning at HDCC because I woke up late. Sorry, guys. That also means I missed out on bacon cheddar scones. I will make up for it by attending the newish WTFCC tomorrow!
I didn’t just wake up late, I woke up late-for-work late. So, there was a loud “OH S***” when I saw the time and a quick call to my supervisor before flying through my apartment, dressing myself, filling my water bottle, petting my cat (meow), packing my backpack, and grabbing my bike as I headed out the door. Running late.
I used multiple tricks to skip as much traffic on Beauregard & Walter Reed as possible, hitting the sidewalk to bypass long stretches of hulking metal boxes to get onto the W&OD Trail. Still running late.
Then, I came across the immediate aftermath of a crash between a cyclist and driver. If you want to know what happened, I wrote about it here: http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showthread.php?10998-Crash-on-W-amp-OD-Trail-9-7-2016 I stopped and helped as best as I could, letting my supervisor know I’d be even more late (she was not happy, but I felt stopping was the right thing to do).
Eventually, I made it to work in a sleepy, stressed, and somewhat somber (due to the crash) mood. And the one bit of good news I have for this morning is…
MY VACATION STARTS TOMORROW!!!
Oh, why is it that the craziness has to just build right up to one’s vacation?
