I swear, on the 4MRT I saw someone riding a bike (2 wheels, and human powered, I think) with an awning.
Was the awning a velotop?

ParticipantI saw him twice on the MVT near National Airport in May. His setup looked homemade to me.

I’ve seen him. It’s home made and also has surround sound speakers built in. Someone on Strava posted a pic of him a few months ago bi will try to find it when I’m not in the iPhone.

ParticipantWas the awning a chocolate color or something close to that? I passed a guy at the 395 underpass back in May with something similar.

ParticipantParked off the trail sunday morning, by the car dealership south side of 4mr/rt 1
Didn’t see the owner, but it’s an impressive contraption.

I saw him on the W&OD along 4MR yesterday. Jogged my memory that Chris Tank had posted a picture of him on Strava before: https://www.strava.com/activities/578542818
Paging ctank for some more info.

ParticipantThe good: Someone must have known that I was running a little behind on my morning commute, so most of the lights I encountered turned green just for me. It coincided quite well with my slightly faster than normal pace.
The bad: I did not have water with me for the first time in months, so my throat was quite parched when I arrived at work.
The weird: I vividly remember getting my water bottle out in my apartment this morning so that I could fill it with ice and water, but I have no memories of what happened to the bottle afterward (it did not get filled and/or make it onto my bike). Also, Monday morning sleepiness.July 11, 2016 at 12:58 pm #1055092JanaeBixby

Where do I get one of these?! Maybe biking the rain wouldn’t suck so much during metro shutdown haha.

ParticipantDecided to take the really long way to work, which resulted in a solid low-five from DCV, although I wasn’t entirely sure he recognized me since I rarely go that way.
Also, I caught up to a woman midway through my ride…she was going just fast enough to make passing more effort than I really wanted to put in, while slow enough that I would’ve had to go really slow to let her get some distance ahead of me…so I kept my average distance to about 4-5 bike lengths (more accurately, a two second count), but she seemed kind of annoyed when we got to the light at Lee/W&OD and asked if I wanted to go ahead of her because “she was slowing me down” or some such. I interpreted that as “I don’t like you following me.” It didn’t really matter since she jumped the light and I didn’t and I was turning off right after that anyway, but the situation kinda frustrated me. I try to be conscientious about following distance, and I also know that some people have a lower threshold for what bothers them, but there’s gotta be a reasonable limit where someone’s comfort level isn’t really my problem anymore, right?

From the looks of it, the Home Depot for supplies and some duct tape.
I’m not sure if it’s worth the trade off in extra weight and drag.

There are lots of issues with DIYing these. Any large solid piece will catch wind, and end up like a sail, either flying of the bike entirely, or pulling the bike. Plus, rain will just come in the sides.
