ParticipantHey thanks a lot for the suggestion to use the strava widget instead of a shortcut. I can already tell that is gonna help a lot with cutting out my “forgot to hit record a second time” incidents.

ParticipantI am (apparently) a committed bicycle commuter.
I may also not be quite sane, judging by lack of other people out today. Sure, there was water coming out of the sky, but it wasn’t that cold or that hard.
Due to the extra gear, I left a little late, so was at the Rosslyn monolith ~7:20 and was number 45. I haven’t been that low on a week day in months. Although not surprising given that I saw a total of 19 cyclists today (three on the Custis prior to the counter and most south of the 14th street bridge), 10 joggers, and 4 pedestrians on the Rosslyn Hill (and a whole mess more once I hit the water park in Crystal City). I was surprised by the lack of dog walkers and joggers today.
So, it was a pretty good ride this morning.

GuestI did not wear rain gear this morning because I would have been ridiculously too hot, with one exception: I did wear my waterproof boots, even though it’s really too warm for them and generally I wouldn’t in these temps. Why? Well, because I am probably also going to ride at lunch and/or home this evening, and wet shoes just would not dry out in time. The boots stay dry though; I have worn them in the rain multiple times and they get just superficially wet on the outside which dry quickly and regardless don’t feel yucky when you later put dry feet back into them.
Smart, right?
Well, it seems I have never before worn the boots in a steady rain without also wearing rain pants, because without the leg of the pants covering the top of the boot, all the rain just flows straight into the shoes. And stays there. Because the shoes are waterproof. In both directions, apparently. Really, really waterproof.
So… How long do you think it takes a pair of fully saturated waterproof boots to dry, once you pour the water out of them?:rolleyes:

Same here with my Garneau waterproof shoe covers, rain down my legs went down the top and soaked my sneakers underneath, glad I packed dry socks.

Never.
You people have obviously not been following the “My Evening Commute” thread.

ParticipantKinda eerie considering I did not see a single soul on the W&OD this morning at 0815 (Vienna) except coming down near the Ballston exit. Wore Shark Grip booties which are great for cold/wet cycling. I made sure my back pack was snugged and tight to prevent water seepage. I only saw 2 joggers. It was nice for a change weather-wise. It should be delightful this afternoon.

ParticipantI only saw one other biker today at the corner of 15th and Constitution. I actually wish I didn’t have my rain gear on since it wasn’t raining hard and the temperature was ok.
I did get yelled at on Columbia Pike to “stay in the right lane”. If anyone knows the driver of Virginia plate XFD401 please kindly explain to him that I was in the left lane because most people on that stretch of the Pike are in the right lane to get on 395 which makes it the least safe lane for a biker especially one that will soon be turning left on to Orme. I was hoping that he would catch the red light at Orme so that I could catch up to him and explain what I was doing so that he could be less of a jerk in the future, but no such luck.

ParticipantJust point to the lit overhead signs saying you must be in the left lane to go straight.

I used to own those sandals. I bought them specifically for the purpose of riding in warm weather rain, and avoiding soggy socks. They were in the rear rack trunk bag on my hybrid when said hybrid was stolen. The thief was not kind enough to leave bag or contents. They fit me pretty poorly, though, and had much flexier soles than I prefer for longer rides, so I probably wouldn’t have been wearing them this morning anyway.

My Pearl Izumi socks dry pretty fast. After I change out of my sweaty commuting attire to office attire, the socks are usually the first to dry.
I do have the option of just wearing the Adidas water shoes barefoot. I guess I’ve been wearing socks in them out of habit.
I remember when your bike got stolen. Sorry you were never able to recover it.

ParticipantThanks for this thread pointing out the Strava widget… I’ve been annoyed by getting to the app and double recording.
Tired trip in this morning, took it easy, still went about my average speed ~ 12.5 mph moving average.
I drove yesterday because of the heavy rain in the morning, but it’d let up by the time I left the house and it was clear in the evening too… and I wished I’d ridden.

ParticipantThis is why a pair of shoes at work beats worrying about what to wear riding

ParticipantI’m glad my job doesn’t require me to wear dress shoes.
