Interesting. Yes — an older silver corolla, I think. Wow.
I did not think to get the plate number until we were already on Glebe. I tried to read and memorize it, but no luck as we were in different lanes then. I was wishing I had a helmet camera…
Do you by chance remember any part of the plate #?

ParticipantThis morning was one of those mornings that involved a lot of people who should have left 15 minutes earlier for work. From this morning:
- I noticed a lot more tailgating along Beauregard/Walter Reed. Seriously, people, why do you drive so close to the car in front of you when you’re going downhill?
- I also got honked at by someone who was in a hurry to hit the next red light. They beeped twice, I turned and looked at them, and then I kept taking the lane and ignored them as they beeped a few more times then passed me in the other lane (like you’re supposed to!) while gesturing towards the sidewalk (thanks for the traffic tip). Mind you, this was on Beauregard about 200 feet before the road goes from 2 to 3 lanes, so he could have just waited a bit longer.
- I noticed someone honk their horn (not at me) immediately after a light turned green. They were about 7 or 8 cars back, so I don’t know why they thought traffic would suddenly be moving at-speed when the light turned green.
- Even though it was overcast, the W&OD was nice and beautiful
- I’m so used to cars running the red light at Henderson/Route 50 that I don’t start to take my left foot off the ground until after my light turns green.
- Drivers get confused when a school bus stops just before a traffic circle (Henderson/2nd St N) to load children

ParticipantThis morning’s commute in was lovely. Stopped by the Revolution Cycles pit stop at Gravely Point for some donuts and to say hi to the super friendly staff there, had a nice tailwind, and made it in earlier than usual.
And then I stepped away from my bag in the gym locker room for 5 minutes and one of wedding bands and a pair of earrings got stolen out of a pocket. Just my f*cking luck. I have insurance coverage and it was luckily my “backup” band and not the official one, but it’s not a small deductible or an easy to replace ring. I think I’ll begin either not wearing any ring at work, or finding a super cheap one from the mall that I wont mind if it gets stolen.

ParticipantOverheard at the Crystal City Bike to Work Week pitstop this morning: “I registered in advance but it was below 50 degrees this morning, so I didn’t ride to work.”
Two years ago, that would have been me.
Today, I just laughed inside, marveled at how much my definition of “appropriate biking weather” has changed — and then proceeded to have conversations with three different people about Freezing Saddles and how much fun winter biking is. Two of those three people were Forum members. It was great to see you, Judd, and it was great to meet you, LeprosyStudyGroup.

ParticipantWas loving my new Bikenetic jacket for this morning’s ride and was pleased to see all the riders who were braving this “frigid” start to B2WW!

I wore shorts this morning and the rain gear is ready to go for the rest of the week. See you tomorrow, Komorebi!

ParticipantMy morning commute was dry because I ride in so early. Yay.
My morning commute was wet because I went home early to be with our sick dog so he doesn’t spew all over the house. Shits never gonna dry at this rate.

ParticipantDry ride in + Yea! Remember I forgot to put the good add a fender on = Go to LBS at lunch and get another one so I will have 2 of them. One to leave at work and one to leave at home. This means I will never be without one at the start of my ride*.
*Who am I kidding…It means I will have two of them at the other end of a wet ride)

ParticipantNew bike fits great and is a joy to ride. The towpath definitely would’ve been pretty much unrideable on any of my other bikes, but the Clement X’plor 35s rolled without a hitch. They felt really good on the pavement too, so I’m pretty happy with them, particularly since they came with the bike. The SKS removable fender (well, the rear anyway; front isn’t mounted yet) also performed flawlessly…no rattles even without the chain stay attachment.

ParticipantAwesome. First day back out after being home sick Monday and avoiding the rain yesterday. I went and played around at Hains Point before cycling back to Crystal City for the Bike to Work Week pit stop. It was so much fun! I saw so many good friends! Judd, Leprosy Study group (Leo), Andrea N, dbb, KWL, vern, Henry Dunbar, and sjclaeys to name a few!
There was coffee! Square bagels! Bananas! and free socks today!!! I’m totally going back tomorrow to see who else shows up! So much fun and not even that late for work!
Here’s Judd, Leo, and dbb (showing off his new socks)

What a coincidence! My Renegade came with the same tires too.
Whatever formula Jamis cooked up in designing the Renegade works great for riding over the tree roots on the path from Jefferson Memorial to the sidewalk along Ohio Dr – pleasantly smooths out all those bumps.

ParticipantLearned a couple of things this morning:
1. If it’s 54 F, don’t bother putting the jacket on. After passing through Gravelly Point, I saw a cyclist ahead of me pull over to take off his jacket. I then realized I was starting to sweat too, and also pulled over to take mine off. Fair amount of wind but it didn’t matter – felt better to ride without the jacket afterwards.
2. Don’t forget to upshift from the 34T to the 50T chain ring while rolling from a dead stop on the street.

ParticipantFirst commute in over a month – I moved jobs again, now going to Courthouse. Time biking = time on Metro, so this will be an ongoing thing. Plus, I get to do the Custis hills near Rosslyn! I actually needed to see how long it would take me to get to the Anacostia and Rosslyn BTWD stops – I’m registered at Anacostia, and meeting work people for a group photo at Rosslyn.

Love it! There are two kinds of people in the world: those who love hills, and the other kind.
