Later at Pennsylvania and 9th, two parents shoaled me at a light so that they could hop off their bikes, set down their kickstands to form a little blockade in the crosswalk, and then take their kid down from his child seat. Why? So that they could pull down his pants and huggies and have him pee on a bollard. There were a lot of people oscillating between disbelieving stares and awkwardly averting our eyes.

Amazing. Because (1) diapers, (2) in the middle of the street!?!?!? and (3) I didn’t know Steve O had toddlers…

This is what I have to walk through to get to my bike rack at work. Due to budget issues, my company is skimping on grounds maintenance. Uggh. I hate geese.

Bleh! So, what do you do to get into your building? Do you walk across the tops of the tables?

Umm, I see picnic tables next to the do-do. Isn’t that a public health issue???? Lordy.

The only difference is wet or dry pants.

And possibly anything the wet pants were sitting on at the time of the incident…

Given that diapers were involved, what the kid was sitting on should have been unaffected.

    Yesterday’s late morning-ish commute…

Got on bike, headed south on 6th St NW a block. Turned west onto Rhode Island.

Ugh, the wind. Wow, I’m going to be late for the 1pm meeting. Yup. Key bridge crossing was cruel. I even had to keep pedaling down the hill from Vienna to Reston to keep the bike moving!

Two hours and twenty plus minutes later, in Herndon, I was a few minutes late. And exhausted. And joined the meeting in my bike clothes. :/

[The evening ride back was nice, though.]

I woke up feeling tired and grumpy this morning — enough so that I seriously considered foregoing my bike commute, rolling over for another hour of sleep, and taking the metro instead. But I did eventually get myself and my bike out the door, and it turned out to be one of those mornings that made me fall in love with my bike commute all over again.

    — These days, I often don’t see another cyclist until a mile or more into my commute. Today, I saw my first rider all of 300 yards from my front door. Although I don’t think that he’s one of my commute regulars, he gave me a friendly wave. Both the greeting and the fluorescent yellow gloves (covet!) instantly lifted my spirits.

    — I passed another cyclist near the southern end of the Potomac Ave. trail. She caught up with me waiting for the light at Potomac Ave. and Crystal Dr., and she asked if she could follow me into DC. She explained that she usually went around the Pentagon but was looking for a better route. So I showed her how to take the Tim Kelley service drive and Crystal City connector to the MVT. As we rounded the corner onto the CC connector, she exclaimed, “So this is how you do it!” That made me smile from ear to ear.

    — While waiting for the light at Jefferson Dr. and 14th St., another rider and I had a friendly chat about how it would be great if D.C. would retime the lights there to make it more convenient for cyclists.

Thank you, community of fellow cyclists, for turning a “blah” start of the day into an amazing one.

Who would have thought that a thin long-sleeved jersey would be overdressing for a mid-December morning bike ride? And I had to take off the gloves halfway to work because my hands were overheating.

I was kicking myself for wearing long pants instead of shorts this morning. Crazy.

I’m calling it. Winter is over! Spring arrived this morning with the light rain and 55F.

BAFS – sorry but you will need to wait till next year

Sandals again! On the first day of winter. Weird.

Post dentist I decided to try the Ft. Myer cut-through from S. Arlington to Rosslyn. Ran into a friend who bikes through frequently and guided me into the left line at the 2nd St. entrance (I wouldn’t have known). They looked at our IDs and let us through. I have a Federal one, but he just has a driver’s license. No hassles.
