ParticipantI also took last week off from riding, though my condition wasn’t as bad as Powerful Pete’s, w&w, etc. I had a bit of a sore/congested throat that was threatening to escalate into a full blown cold or fever – didn’t want to push it by riding.
Beautiful autumn morning ride, even with the chill at the start.

ParticipantI’m not second guessing the response yesterday. I’m looking out my window and watching workers replace shot-out windows in multiple buildings nearby, including one on the other side of the L Street cycletrack.

ParticipantYesterday I submitted my pothole request concerning the pit on N George Mason that led to my terror-on-wheels last week. Arlington County responded immediately!! I rode by this morning and it’s a beautiful sight… Never in my life has a hole full of asphalt made me grin this much. Thank you Arlington County.
I continue to ride every day… my ribs are on the mend, though things like sneezing are still pretty brutal, and a night-time attack of the hiccups nearly did me in.

ParticipantI get a special smile on my face when I see a law-breaking motorist get pulled over at the Intersection of Doom for barreling through the right turn while pedestrians and cyclists were trying to cross.

ParticipantVery pleasant commute. I saw five other cyclists on the Custis and maybe ten on MVT. More peds on Custis than cyclists, but not many over all. No rain, a bit breezy by the airport. Glad I wait until it is time to leave to make my decision to bike or not since it really was nice. Even the car getting ready to turn during the LPI at the IOD stopped as I pointed at him and then the no turn sign. Hopefully tonights weather is as nice (although those leaves will be slick).

ParticipantWeather this morning: “Oh, you’ve spent the last 2 weeks in Hawaii with temps between 70-80 degrees (F) the whole time? Well, here’s a nice morning commute of windy and below freezing temperatures for you!”

ParticipantI think that Freezing Saddles may have begun this morning…

I definitely had some waffling on the clothing to wear today given the quick drop in temperature rather than a more gradual change. If I had much further to ride, I would have had to start removing clothing, so I did not get it quite right.

ParticipantBeautiful morning ride. Refreshing. I think the sun was reading all the “lights” discussions on the other threads and arranged to clouds to keep itself out of my eyes.

ParticipantOver the weekend I put a new rear rack on my Sutra. I wanted to mount my panniers lower, so I bought one with a lower rail. After I put the rack on, I mounted the panniers lower, and I moved them back. I figured that would help with the occasional heel rub I’ve experienced.
My commute yesterday was fine, but this morning I hit a bump and jiggled my pannier into the spokes. I quickly stopped (although I didn’t really have a choice) and assessed the damage. I use Ortliebs, and I tore the fabric shell off the backing about halfway around. Nothing spilled out, but I still had nine miles to go, so I jury rigged the pannier so that it would stay together until I got to work. Once I got to work and settled in, I duct taped the bag so that it would last for the ride home. My rear wheel is stout, with 36 straight-gauge spokes and a hefty rim, so it was in good shape, but some of the spokes were a little loose. My ride home was uneventful, and when I got home, I put the wheel on the truing stand and got the slight wobble out and tensioned up the spokes.

ParticipantThe problem with weather like today’s is that the DING-DING of my bell becomes dink-dink. Luckily (I guess) there was almost no one out there to pass.

ParticipantMy morning commute was… very, very wet.
Still beats driving or Metro though!

Indeed! However, I am working today in a different location and thus, don’t have my handy fan to dry my shoes and gloves, so I think I will begin the PM commute already soggy.

ParticipantSadly, my double flat last night, combined with last Tuesday’s double flat, left me without enough tubes for this morning’s ride.
