Actually, Arlington is “ACPD” not “APD.” Arlington generally uses “AC” in its abbreviations with the notable exception of the public school system (“APS”). Alexandria simply uses “A” in its abbreviations except for its public schools (“ACPS”).
Sorry, I’m a bit pedantic.

ParticipantSaw a bald eagle on the W&OD between Vienna and Reston. Another cyclist pointed him out–it was perched on top of one of the tall electrical transmission towers. He said eagles are there often. I guess I don’t bother to look up often enough.

That’s bizarre. No wonder we’re all confused anytime one of these acronyms is used.

I saw the big birds (hawks, falcons, etc.) more often when I worked out in Fair Lakes (near Reston).

Ohh I need to look next time I’m out there. I saw one over DCA earlier this year while on the MVT. I think it may have been one of the bald eagles that lives in Arlington National Cemetery or in DC. There’s also one that lives in Anacostia at the DHS headquarters (aka Coast Guard headquarters since they’re the only ones out there so far). My husband sees that one every few days outside his office.

Another place to see one is on & around TR Island.

I had heard one lived around here from folks working in Rosslyn, but haven’t seen it.
They’re definitely around the area. The ones I usually see are located across the GWMP from the MVT by Belle Haven Golf Course. Heading south where there is a stretch there of no trees, they are in the first big tree. I see them there randomly. There are two more nests further down. One near Dyke Marsh and then one over by Ft Hunt. And I’ve been fortunate to watch the one by golf course make a dive bomb attack into the river for a fish once.
The one thing I haven’t seen recently are many mice…. hoping the two things are connected
.

I may have seen another recently landing in a tree by Roaches Run, but I didn’t get the best look while making my way along the airport.

ParticipantI just want to toss out to Arlington County Police that several months into their enforcement, it’s still awesome to see them at the IOD. This morning, a guy almost took our a cyclist making a turn on red. They were in front of his car and he threw his hands up muttering something. But he was ticketed and I do think it’s making a difference, even if slowly.
Otherwise, nice ride in this morning.

ParticipantThermal coffee mug that fits snugly in a bottle cage, FTW!

Wanted to be at work early, which necessitated skipping Kindred Coffee today. Instead I was sipping at every stop light. Missed the company, but enjoyed the ride!

ParticipantHoly crap there was a buttload of traffic this morning in SE. Why would there be so much more traffic this week vs last week? The time change shouldn’t affect traffic. Anyway, the side roads were all packed with drivers trying to avoid the main roads because they were choked with cars. Fortunately for me, I was going the other way.

Yes, but I would LOVE to see them in the afternoon. They’ll even admit that they haven’t done enforcement at the IoD during evening rush.

Could we convince them to at least leave a squad car on the grass? I think even the image of their presence is a strong deterrent to the bad driving.

Weird. This morning it seemed as if my commute (through north Arlington into McLean) was totally devoid of cars. I suspect FFX schools are on some kind of break, so the usual school drop-off traffic was gone. But walking into the office I heard people complaining about heavier-than-usual traffic this morning, so I don’t know what the deal is.
