ParticipantPleasant ride just like yesterday. Saw a cyclist draft a car on Jefferson. He’s got more cojones than me – even if a car was going slowly enough for me to draft it, I don’t trust the drivers enough to not make a sudden stop, especially not on Jefferson in the morning when half the cars that enter this street are looking to park or load/unload something.
Tried taking Constitution to get to Louisiana. Seemed a quite a bit slower than my usual route from 3rd St – Pennsylvania to 1st St NW to Louisiana. I think it’s because of the long wait at the traffic light.

ParticipantFlatbed tow truck came up on me at high speed and honked me out of the lane rather than changing lanes. We were the only two vehicles on a typical VDOT overbuilt stroad. Really wish it had been bright enough to read the logo on the truck. 😡

A garbage truck was flying up Quincy the other day as I was biking along in the bike lane, laying on the horn. Cars were coming in the other direction, and there wouldn’t have been room for me in bike lane outside of the door zone + overwide truck in its lane, and instead of slow down, the jerk driver was just honking. Not trusting my life and my 4 year old’s life to that jerk, I pulled into a parking space. #MAKEQUINCYSAFER

ParticipantCommute started out fine, ended with a jerk. Actually got drizzled on for a while – odd since when looking straight up (waiting at light to cross Ft Myer) there was blue sky with high, non-rain clouds. Must have been a very thin raincloud there too.
Then, heading south on MVT as I descend from the Humpback bridge to continue on the MVT (and I do not signal to go to the 14th Street (aka George Mason Memorial) Bridge), some guy on a CaBi comes shooting off the bridge access road and cuts me off. I have to grab a bit of break and then he slows even further to answer his phone! More break. Others then pass the two of us, One told him to watch where he was going, but he sloughed that off. I get a chance to pass him and off I go. As I ascend the airport bridge, I am stuck behind a jogger with joggers coming down and another bike coming down, so, trying not to be a jerk, I wait to pass. I signal my pass, and as I am passing, the same CaBi guy passes without any announcing himself! While I didn’t get there in time to be certain, I have a feeling he jumped his turn through the CCC tunnel too.

Your only recourse would seem to be shouting your loudest: “HEY LANCE, THIS AIN’T LE [insert optional expletive here] TOUR!”.
Of course the intended target is unlikely to hear you (because earbuds), but shouting will help to reduce your stress level, and may entertain bystanders.

ParticipantSo we’re supposed to yell the same thing cycling-ignorant motorists yell at us? No thanks.

ParticipantOld eggs in a toptube bag for throwing? Coke can in the bottle cage? Helmet-mounted megaphone and a thesaurus full of swear words?

Participant…was lovely, except for a bump on the Custis causing my chain to fall… and then lodge itself into my crank assembly. Thanks to Steve O for stopping to help dislodge it. Grrrr. #fixtheCustisalready!!!!

ParticipantMy commute in today gave me my fastest average speed (15.1 mph) and my quickest time (54:55)! I wasn’t even really pushing it (too muggy, trail too busy etc).
Wheeeeeeeeee!
Except now I want a nap.

Not sure I did anything except jiggle it around, but glad we got you back on the road (trail).

And you know you deserve that nap, just tell your boss.
